TheNintendo Switch 2might bechanging many things, but one disgusting aspect of the original system is being retained. Nintendo has confirmed that the cartridges will keep something that made them difficult for kids to swallow.
As a family-friendly company, Nintendo knows thatmany young kids playits systems, so it has to avoid pieces that are too small, as children could potentially consume them. Luckily, this wasn’t a problem with game cartridges for many generations, as they were massive, but they started getting a lot smaller during the Nintendo DS era.

Mario Kart World’s $80 Price Tag Is Not Nintendo’s Attempt To Set A New ‘Benchmark’
Nintendo has a new “variable pricing” model where they’ll sell games for what they think they’re worth.
When theNintendo Switch rolled aroundand Nintendo moved away from compact disc-sized physical units for games, it needed something to make the new Switch cartridges unappealing for kids to put in their mouths. Takuhiro Dohta, the Senior Director at Nintendo EPD’s Programming Management, confirmed in an interview withGamespotthat the Switch 2 is bringing the feature back.

Nintendo Switch 2 Cartridges Are Intentionally Gross
According to Dohta, theSwitch 2 cartridgesare coated in a chemical that is absolutely revolting to taste, though is technically safe to consume. This is to prevent anyone from trying to swallow them, especially kids, as the taste is so horrific that they’ll want to spit it out straight away.
“We don’t want anybody to be at risk of any unwanted consumption. We have indeed made it so that if it enters your mouth, you’ll spit it out.”

This feature was also used with theoriginal Switch cartridgesfor the same reason. Naturally, this prompted lots of fans to try it out, something that they instantly regretted, as the Switch cartridges taste like hairspray and pain.
It’s unsurprising that the Nintendo Switch 2 would retain the chemical coating on the cartridge, considering the physical similarities between the systems and the games. It will also be unsurprising when people start licking the new cartridges on stream, just to verify they still taste bad.
