2019 is a special year for Evolution Championship Series (EVO) fans and competitors. It’s the first yearSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatewill be featured at the weekend-long fighting tournament.Super Smash Bros.has always been one of thebiggest draws at EVO, so it comes as no surprise thatUltimatewill headline the event, closing out the show on its final day. In light of this, Nintendo is sending four winners of an online open tournament held in June to compete. Keep an eye out for RamonM64, Wisdom, Seth, and Heeew.

EVO takes place August 2-4 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Nintendo will have a booth on the show floor called the Nintendo Zone for the first two days. The booth is open to all EVO attendees and those who pay it a visit can playSuper Mario Maker 2,Tetris® 99, andSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate. A few visitors might earn themselves some Nintendo swag while those commemorative items last.

Ultimatewon’t be the only game featured at EVO, of course. You’ll also seeStreet Fighter V,Tekken 7,Samurai Shodown,Mortal Kombat 11,Dragon Ball FighterZ,Under Night In-Birth,SoulCalibur VI, andBlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle. I’m especially excited forSoulCalibur VI–perhaps the most underrated fighting game out right now. Check out thisschedulefor a full lineup of everything EVO has to offer. There’ll be panels and parties in addition to the tournaments.

Information recently leaked suggesting that theDragon Quest XIhero will be arriving as aSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatecharacter this week. If true, it could mean we’ll see him up on the big stage–assuming players can get good enough with him in that short period of time. It’s also possible that this new character would be disallowed until everyone’s had more time to familiarize themselves with him.

If you dream of competing one day, you can buySuper Smash Bros. Ultimatefor the Nintendo Switch and start practicing now.
