Recently, Nintendo personnel were asked about the developers of the upcoming title. This is what the staff toldGame File:

Yes, we got a response from the publishing company, but the strange thing is that the original developer company of the series, Alpha Dream, went bankrupt in 2019. So, there is no way the same company is in charge of the new game.

However, some former Alpha Dream employees are working at Nintendo right now. For example, Alpha Dream’s former Development Manager, Hiroyuki Kubota, is now working for Nintendo-owned Monolith Soft after the closure of the former company.

Not only that, Yoshihiko Maekawa, who recently supervised the Switch remake of Mario RPG, once served as the series director and producer at Alpha Dream as well.

After nine long years, a new Mario & Luigi game is going to be launched.

This type of weird secrecy has also been done previouslywhen the publishing company denied to reveal the new voice actor of Mario.

Mario and Luigi: Brothership: Story and Gameplay

In the upcoming game, the two brothers, Mario and Luigi, will embark on a journey to explore a new world called Concordia through tropical rainforests, busy cities, and other places. Their journey will be through a ship island called Shipshape Island. Franchise-famous characters like Princess Peach, Bowser, and many others will be featured in these RPG titles as well.

Like the other previous titles, the brothers will work together in brotherhood. They can also use special abilities like“Bros. Moves”to overcome strong obstacles. Against strong enemies, they can also use“Bros. Attacks.”

The announcement trailer showed the two brothers meeting some new friends. Two of them looked exactly like electric plugs, named Connie and Snoutlet. These two seem to be allies of our favorite brother duo, who will be set upon a battle against a“new electrical threat.”

Brothershipis going to be the sixth main entry in the series and the first afterPaper Jam(2015). There hasn’t been much talk about the storyline or any confirmations yet if the upcoming title is going to be a direct sequel to its predecessor.

The unusual tactic to keep the developer hidden might feel a bit strange to the fans. What’s the reason for this curious secrecy? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section.
