As the Oscars have announced their nominees for the 2025 ceremony, the world is feeling a lot of feelings. While some very surprising and deserving contenders have made their way onto the list, there are always others who also should have been on the list.
The list is certainly very long with the number of actors that gave the performance of their lifetime in excellent films last year. However, some snubbed projects and actors are more evident than the rest.
With this, here are the seven most upsetting snubs and surprising nominations from the 2025 Oscars.
Snub: Nicole Kidman inBabygirl
Nicole Kidmanhas frequently been nominated by the Academy, having even won the award for Best Actress in 2002. Despite this, she was noticeably absent from the list despite her performance inBabygirl. While the project did get a lot of attention and could have gotten her a nomination with her past with the Academy, the film has not been well received among critics.

Considering the film’s 77% rating onRotten Tomatoesand the amount of acclaim that Craig got for his performance, many were expecting him to be nominated.

Although it is not surprising thatThe Substanceis being recognized by the Academy for its mastery, there is no denying that no one expected the film to get so many nominations. It has received five nominations, including Best Picture, Directing, Actress in a Leading Role, Writing, and Makeup.

Angelina Jolie’sMariawas arguably one of the most critically acclaimed and magnificent works of her entire professional life. The actress gave Maria Callas her all, learning how to sing like her and completely embody her essence. Despite her excellent performance and the film’s 74% rating onRotten Tomatoes, she was not nominated, and fans are not impressed.
