Earlier this year,Pokemon GOdevelopers Niantic set up atask forcewith prominent members of the game’s community.

The idea came from the fact that Niantic realised, after making some extremelyunsavoury changes, it “should be communicating and engaging more with Trainers.” The ultimate goal was more transparency with the millions who still play the game. Unfortunately, that didn’t last very long.

What Happened?

Over the last couple of days, players noticed a new “Lure Module Box” appear inPokemon GO’sin-game store. The box contained four different types of Lure Modules, items designed to attract certain Pokemon to specific locations in the game.

While nothing was particularly awry with the box itself, the pricing caused some major concern.

Athread on the popular TheSilphRoad subredditstated that the new box was available for 550 coins, however, it was soon flooded with confused players reporting prices as low as 350 coins and as high as 700.

This caused some major concerns. Was it an error or was Niantic trying to see if it could make extract more coins from the more dedicated players, or whales as they are known. If it was option B, it’s not a good look for the company.

Niantic’s Response

GOStadiumPvP, a Twitter page dedicated toPokemon GOeSports reportedly received aresponsefrom Niantic.

The response stated that “In this particular test, the team ultimately opted to be quiet about it since widespread knowledge of the test may affect the results. They are aware of the upset this is causing with the community. The feedback is being seriously considered in how we work to improve transparency and communications with Trainers.”

This worryingly all sounds a little similar to what players were told just a few months back.

DualShockers has reached out to Niantic for further comment.
