Elysium Game Studio’s upcoming cyberpunk action RPG Neo Berlin 2087 recently hadits reveal trailer uploadedby the officialPlaystationaccount. Unfortunately, the trailer’s poor performance has left many fans disappointed (though some remained optimistic about the game’s potential), but the studio embraced the criticism and feedback (viaits official Twitter), and promised to take no breaks until the game becomes a perfect ten.

Neo Berlin 2087 offers a thrilling ride through a futuristic world that is as beautiful and immersive as it is deadly. The gameplay shown in the trailer is from the perspective of the game’s protagonist, who wears aCrysis-esque armor and engages in intense firefights with other armored soldiers and drones.

However, despite being an example of the graphical fidelity offered by the use ofUnreal Engine 5, the trailer is currently sitting at 15k dislikes, with several fans criticizing the low frame drops and the premature release of the trailer, and some even comparing it to retro N64 shooters.

The gameplay footage shown in the trailer does look janky and unappealing, but we are aware that this is just a glimpse at pre-alpha footage and not a finished game or beta prototype (as the studio itself mentions at the beginning of the trailer).

The studio is likely using the trailer as a means to generate interest and awareness for their indie project, and to attract talented developers with Unreal Engine experience (as notedon the official website). PlayStation’s promotion and support of the project could also be interpreted as a positive sign of Neo Berlin 2087’s potential and PlayStation’s support of indie developers.

All in all, what the trailer shows now feels true to the inspirations listed on the official website, movies that defined the cyberpunk genre like Blade Runner and Ghost in the Shell, and even more, it boasts a new concept where there are new Berlin Walls enacted instead of the old ones abolished when East Germany was still a country, so there is an interesting mix of fiction and reality at work.

The game is also set to have a blend of 1st and 3rd person perspectives (according toits Steam page), and the ability to customize play styles as players prefer, so it is indeed a concept that can work with the right attention and care.
