A group of indie developers has been working on aMother 4fan game sequel, and its first trailer looks quite promising.
As pointed out by our Japanese peers atAutomaton, theMother4Fangamesite on November 28 revealed a new trailer for its project. The trailer is pretty much everything you could expect from an officialMother / Earthboundsequel, keeping the explorable 2D environments, and the turn-based battle system.

TheMother 4fangame is scheduled to release on PC. However, the game has no release date estimate yet. Which is fine honestly, the devs should take all the time they need.
This specificMother 4project seems quite ambitious, featuring a road trip across America with a variety of settings, monsters, and NPCs. It’s definitely a project to keep your eyes on. Hopefully, the developers will manage to pull through and complete the game in good developing conditions. I wouldn’t be surprised if the game’s name changed at some point though. Just likeOddity, which was initially anotherMother 4fan-made project.
Needless to say, it’s not the first time an indie game tries its hand at beingMother 4. In fact, you could probably call “Mother 4” more than half of the indie RPGs getting released. As the JRPG series by Shigesato Itoi and HAL Laboratories is more often than not one of their biggest inspirations.
Will Nintendo ever make a newMother / Earthboundgame? Predictions
You might believe Nintendo has no intention of ever making a newMothergame, but I personally wouldn’t rule it out. Sure this is just a guess, but Shigesato Itoi has been making a lot of merch related to the series ever since the launch of theHobonichi Mother Project.
In particular, acompilation mangawith artists like Inio Asano or Toby Fox was released as well. So we might see at the very least some remasters happen at some point. Who knows.
