Ed Boon, a co-creator of the hit fighting seriesMortal Kombat, recently tweeted out a teaser for what many originally believed would be Mortal Kombat 12. However, the teaser hinted at a possible reboot for the series, and now a new leak has practically confirmed that to be the case.Billbil-kun, a leaker who is well-known for accurately revealing the line-up of newPlayStation Plusgames each month before they are announced, has revealed new details on the next Mortal Kombat game. Should the leak come to fruition, Mortal Kombat 1 may be skipping the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. For those that own either a current-generation console, Nintendo Switch, or PC, the price will vary depending on your platform. The leaker claims that the standard edition will be $69.99 USD on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and $59.99 USD on Nintendo Switch. There were no details shared on a price point for PC users, but it is likely to be in line with current-gen prices.
It looks like there will also be a premium and ‘kollectors’ edition of Mortal Kombat 1, both with rather steep price points. For the premium edition, players are looking at $109.99 USD, whilst the ‘kollectors’ edition will set players back an eye-watering $249.99 USD. There’s currently no word on what will be included in these enhanced editions.
We recommend taking these details with a pinch of salt for the time being, but given the recent teaser by Ed Boon, a reboot of the series was already heavily speculated by fans. The teaser in question can be seen below, which Boon prefaced by asking “Does anyone know what time it is?” The video then shows the hands of a clock completely skipping the number 12, which many believed would be the next entry in the series, and going straight to number 1. The teaser was also shared on the official Mortal Kombat Twitter account.
A rumor from journalist Jez Corden was also shared last month, in which he stated that a reveal for thenext Mortal Kombat game would be shared this month. As we now approach the halfway point of the month, it’s looking like an official reveal could be imminent.
