In addition tonew features like the Pop-up Camps, one of my favorite new mechanics to spice upMonster HunterWild’scombat—is the ability to create wounds or weak points on monsters to stagger them.
It’s a feature that isn’t too exploitable nor is it too hard to masterfor both casual and hardcore fans, making most monsters feel doable rather than aiming to just break their parts when a hunt begins.

Monster Hunter Wilds' First Post-Launch Update Detailed
Still two weeks out from its launch, Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds has revealed some of the contents included in the game’s first post-launch update.
In this guide, I aim to give you a brief explanation of how you can create and target these same wounds on the monsters and how they can help turn the odds on your corner in the heat of battle.

How To Create Wounds On Monsters
you may open up wounds on monsters by continually attacking a certain part of their body until it eventually exposes itself and becomes red to damage it.
In this way, you may create a few wounds on the monster’s body, be it the legs, the tail, or even the head, where it’s the most vulnerable in a few cases.

you’re able to also expose wounds with enough normal attacks, but it is generally advised you use your Focus Mode strikes on them.
After that, it’s simply a case of getting an open opportunity to target these woundswith your Focus Mode’s staggering attacks.

For parts like the claws or legs or even the mid-regions, if you damage them enough, they’ll be slightly scarred until they eventually turn red.
However, another technique that works greatly to create wounds inWildsis utilizing theMounting mechanic on monsters, letting you open up two or three wounds on the body before using a finisher to stun them.

This is great if you want to quickly open up wounds on the upper body of the monster or just create them on its tail or head to specifically target them.
The Advantage Of Targeting & Exposing Wounds
Exposing wounds is almost mandatory as it allows you and your teammates more DPS windows to lay the hurt on the monsters during hunts.
It also helps tenderize and burn them out instantly if they’re in a frenzied state. And I’d even say it’s best that you expose wounds during that state if possible to potentially stagger them like I did with Rathalos in the clip above.
In rare cases, the wounds may be on the upper region of a monster’s wing, as is the case sometimes with monsters like Arkveld or Rey Dau.
Most importantly, in addition to the wounds being destroyed, the game also actively rewards you with extra monster materials on the side,as shown in the image above.
So if that happens, it’s best to take your time to reach for it and use long-reach weapons to expose it like a Greatsword, Gunlance, or Bow.
Don’t ever get too greedy in trying to expose wounds,as it’s better to save some when you’re in a tough predicament and want to instantly subdue the monster.
Lastly, with multiple inflicted wounds on the body, especially the tail, it’ll allow you to easily break them and get any parts you desire from the monster, making their farming feel slightly streamlined.
