If you’ve been illicitly using the Ray Gun inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s multiplayer, now might be the time to stop, as a new patch was recently deployed that results in self-inflicting damage when using the weapon.
The Ray Gun is a popular weapon in Call of Duty’s Zombies mode, first debuting all the way back in 2009’s Call of Duty: World At War. Since its inception, it has gone on to appear in a plethora ofCall of Dutytitles. The latest iteration of the weapon appears in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s Zombies mode, but players have been using some questionable tactics to transfer the gun over to the game’s multiplayer mode.

Modern Warfare 3 Zombies: Every Contract, Explained & Ranked
Which contracts should you accept in Modern Warfare 3 Zombies?
Due to an upcoming limited-time mode (more on that later), hackers have managed to get their hands on the famous Ray Gun in Modern Warfare 3’s multiplayer. We won’t be detailing how you do this, because not only does it require the use of hacking tools, it ruins the fun for everybody else. But if you are thinking about trying out the Ray Gun in multiplayer, you probably want to think again.

Yesterday evening, Sledgehammer Games deployed a small update that rectified this cheating issue. However, they didn’t simply remove the Ray Gun. No no no, instead, the devs opted for a more troll-like approach. Now, anyone who uses the Ray Gun in Multiplayer will do nothing but damage themselves. “Players illicitly accessing the Ray Gun in Multiplayer will now inflict self-damage upon use,” Sledgehammer announced over onX(formerly known as Twitter).
How To Use The Ray Gun, Without Being A Cheater!
Fear not, if you’re an upstanding member of society, butreallywant to get your hands on the Ray Gun in multiplayer for some chaotic fun, there will soon be a legitimate way to do so.
As confirmed in a Call of Duty blog post earlier this month, the Ray Gun will be coming to Modern Warfare 3’s Multiplayer later this season as part of a special limited-time mode known as Vortex. The new free-for-all mode will see one player spawn in with the Ray Gun equipped (which will wipe out your enemies in one shot), whilst the remaining players must take them out. If you’re lucky enough to kill the player with the Ray Gun, you’ll take over and have your opportunity to blast away opponents with the infamous Zombies Wonder Weapon.

The new mode, which will arrive with Modern Warfare 3’s mid-season update, will take place on three remixed Multiplayer maps: Satan’s Quarry, Sporeyard, and Tetanus. These maps are originally Quarry, Scrapyard, and Rust, but will take on a new horrifying look when jumping into the new limited-time Vortex mode.
