Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the highly anticipated remake of thePS2 classic, is almost finally here, and thus far, reviews have been pretty positive.

The game currently has a “Mighty” rating onOpenCritic, with most outlets pleased with the game’s experience. Our sister site,Polygon, said that the “Metal Gear Solid Delta breathes new life into Snake Eater, making the classic Cold War stealth adventure look and play better than ever.”

The PS5 Pro Version of Snake Eater Consistently Lags Behind The Base PS5 Version

However, there is one aspect of the game that is falling short, and it has to do with performance on the PlayStation 5 Pro, of all things.

With news of Sony increasing the price of the PlayStation 5 todrastically rise in the near future, with the PS5 Pro soon to run $749.99 retail, seeing games run worse on a far more expensive machine isn’t exactly ideal.

The PS5 Pro Version of Snake Eater Consistently Lags Behind The Base PS5 Version

Digital Foundry ran a comparison video that takes a look at the difference in performance between the base PS5 and the PS5 Pro, and the results are pretty surprising. The game routinely runs at a lower framerate on PS5 Pro compared to the PS5 console.

It’s a surprise to find that performance is a lesser priority for Konami on PS5 consoles at least…Based on the evidence here, there’s a lot to address in performance terms, with the PS5 Pro edition being the most in need of attention.

They mention that there is a possibility that a Day One patch can alleviate these issues, but also acknowledge that the PS5 Pro version of the game is in need of some serious help.

As you may expect, fans are not only upset but also confused. “720p and under 60 fps in 2025 is wild,” one said on thePS5 subreddit, with others expressing their disappointment at how a more powerful console can run games so poorly.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen aMetal Gear Solid 3re-release suffer from performance issues as well. In 2023, fans were upset with frame rate issues with Snake Eater as part of the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection.Konamiwould indeed release patch updates over the years, most recently in March of this year, so it’s logical that a performance update for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is coming at some point.
