Mega Evolutions are still a relatively contentious matter since their addition toPokemon GOlast year.

Niantic has made a few changes to balance the way they work, however, many players still don’t think the cost/effort is worth the reward.

That being said, a huge portion of players still regularly raid Mega Pokemon, especially when there’s a brand new one in the mix, likethe debuting Mega Altaria.

As is the case with all new Raid Bosses, it’s always best to seek the optimum team to take it down, so, here is every Mega Altaria weakness, resistance and the best counters to take it down in Pokemon GO.

Mega Altaria Weakness Pokemon GO

While Altaria has a Dragon/Flying typing, Mega Altaria changes to become the only Pokemon with a dual Dragon/Fairy typing.

This means many of the regular counters you would use against regular Altaria won’t work.

While it retains its weakness to Ice and Fairy-type moves it loses the weaknesses it had to Dragon and Rock-type moves. On the other hand, Mega Altaria does gain weaknesses to Steel and Poison-types.

Alongside its four weaknesses, Mega Altaria does have a huge range of resistances. These are; Fire, Water, Electric, Grass, Fighting, Bug, Dragon and Dark-type moves.

Best Counters For Mega Altaria’s Weaknesses

With Mega Altaria’s Dragon resistances, you’re mostly going to want to bring Ice-type Pokemon to the party.

The usual bunch ofGalarian Darmanitan,ÂMamoswine,ÂWeavile,GlaceonandJynxare solid picks here.

You can considerMega Abomasnowtoo. Although it suffers against Altaria’s Flying moves, it will provide a boost to all other Ice-type Pokemon.

MetagrossandDialgaare two solid Steel-types,Togekissis probably your best Fairy option andMega Beedrill, Mega GengarandRosaradeare solid Poison picks.

Seeing as you’re coming up against a Mega Pokemon, it’s probably best you ensure you come prepared with a range of top counters and at least 4 other trainers.
