Fans may have first heard the sound of High Valyrian in HBO’sGame of ThronesthroughEmilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen. She had several speeches expressed in the noble language, and no sooner than later, viewers were so fascinated that they also attempted to learn a couple of phrases.
More High Valyrian words were heard in the prequel seriesHouse of the Dragon.Matt Smith, who played Daemon Targaryen, admitted he had a tough time learning the language. In his interview withGQ, he confessed to feeling overwhelmed when he saw how many dialogues he had to deliver in the said tongue.

It’s a sort of collaboration between Latin and Arabic, in a strange way. And I thought, when I read so many of those scenes, “Oh God, this is gonna be a pain.”
He enjoyed the scenes, nonetheless, and he thought that those moments where Daemon speaks in High Valyrian were revelatory of the exotic parts of his personality that are only known to himself.

Matt Smith Was Frustrated With His High Valyrian Scenes
Smith has been vocal about his struggle with learning High Valyrian, a task he soon managed to overcome. While speaking withSlashFilm, he admitted he wasn’t enthusiastic about speaking a foreign language, let alone a made-up one. “At first, I dreaded it,” he told the outlet.

It’s understandable why theDoctor Whostar struggled with delivering native Targaryen speech, but surely his former costar shared some of her tips with him as they performed quite a lot of scenes in the said language.
