Marvel has an event problem. The franchise has managed to drive itself into the ground, by positioning itself with narratives that are focused on events. Kevin Feige has made a lot of money off of the model that allowed him to do films likeAvengers: EndgameandInfinity War, and that model itself has come to bite him at the most crucial moment of the MCU’s history.

As DC gears up to bring out the big guns withSupermanthis year, Marvel finds itself in a very tumultuous position at the box office.Thunderbolts, TheFantastic Four: First Steps, andCaptain America: Brave New Worldhave all very shoddy chances at breaking even at the box office, as fans are more concerned with events likeAvengers: Secret WarandAvengers: Doomsday.
While crossover events might cause problems, Marvel already has a solution
This focus on crossover events, especially in the wake of films likeAvengers: Endgame, seems to have hit Marvel in the worst way possible. DC has a very clear advantage in the film side of things, with crossover events not being that big a part of their stories. However, Marvel can still have its day in the sun, even if DC is bringing out the big guns.

While crossover events might have ruined Marvel, whether it be films or comics, there is one way in which Marvel can actually deliver great stand-alone films, and ironically, it has already been done in films likeSpider-Man: HomecomingandThor: Love and Thunder.
The idea that Marvel can run with is having cameos and secret cast members in films, that can crossover without the need of their being big and important events. It has already been a staple in comics and should be something that can work in films. As opposed to them, DC has managed to keep its fans focused on characters instead of teams.

While the DCEU did not have much luck in live action, James Gunn has been careful to announce projects about individuals, rather than simply focusing on assembling The Justice League to fight Marvel.
Marvel needs to make sure its 2025 slate of films can win the trust of fans
Be itCaptain America: Brave New World, orThe Fantastic Four: First Steps, 2025 seems to be stacked for Marvel Studios. However, the slate, except for maybeDaredevil: Born Again, simply does not seem to have the star power to carry the projects for the mainstream, audience.
Chris Evans Will Come Back to MCU But Not in an Avengers Movie If Ross Marquand Finally Gets His Wish Granted in Marvel Studios
Anthony Mackie’sSam Wilson was last seen on a Disney+ seriesThe Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which a lot of fans have forgotten about. Thunderbolts don’t have any heavy hitters leading the charge for a crossover film, except for maybe Florence Pugh.
Daredevil: Born Againis perhaps the only series that is getting picked up with some hype, given that despite the character’s long absence, he is the only character to have led a project of his own before in the 2025 slate of Marvel Comics. WithSupermankicking off the DCU, Marvel might have to put it’s best foot forward, which really comes down to selling its iteration of the Fantastic Four to fans, in the time it has left.

Daredevil: Born Againwill begin streaming on June 20, 2025.
Supermanhits theatres on August 21, 2025.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps, hits theatres on July 06, 2025.
