Having played more notable villains than he has heroes, the actor has explored all shares of morally grey and black. From playing one of the bestJames Bondvillains of all time, Le Chiffre, to playing arguably the best version of Hannibal Lecter, he has certainly made a name for himself through the macabre.

One would assume that starring in NBC’sHannibalorCasino Royalewould be the highlight of his career. However, during an interview, the actor confessed that his favorite character across his entire career is someone else entirely.

A Magical Role of a Lifetime

Mads Mikkelsenhas been part of many iconic franchises over the years. From playing Galen Erso inStar Warsto being a part of theHarry Potterfranchise, he has certainly seen it all. However, it would seem that one franchise has taken a special place in his heart.

In 2016, the actor started in Marvel’s Doctor Strange, playing the iconic role of Kaecillius. His character was beloved in more ways than one, being named as one of the more memorable villains in the many that have featured within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

However, it would seem that Mikkelsen loved playing this character just as much as fans loved his performance. During an interview withThe New Yorker, the actor revealed that his favorite character that he ever played was Kaecillius.

Elaborating on why he loved playing Kaecillius as much as he did, Mads Mikkelsen revealed that he had always been a fan of kung fu growing up. He confessed that he loved Bruce Lee, and the film was perfect for exploring that part of his passion.

Doctor Strangewas a film set in the mystical arts, which has several influences from kung-fu when it comes to fighting. However, since magic is a big element, the characters aren’t just fighting each other but doing it while they are flying around in mirror dimensions with hoods and sling rings.

To do a flying kung-fu film – we had wires and stuff going on inDoctor Strange– was like a dream come true. I loved Bruce Lee. And I was not only doing flying kung fu – Jesus; I had an orange f8cking jumpsuit! How cool can it be?

With this in mind, as well as the fact that Mikkelsen is a former gymnast, one can imagine that the actor had the time of his life on the set of the beloved Marvel film. He explained that he was being suspended by wires and moving around while fighting people, which must have felt more like play than work.

Additionally, he mentioned that the outfit that his character was wearing only added to the fun that he was having. Due to this, Mikkelsen has labeled the character as one of his favorites.
