While 2023’sIndiana Jones and the Dial of Destinyended the film series on a down note, this year’sIndiana Jones of the Great Circlegame, now available forXboxand PC, hasproved quite successful. It turns out that there is indeed still demand for more Indiana Jones; the story has to be worth it.
That was arguably lacking in the final two films, including 2008’sKingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Indiana Jones And The Great Circle Story Length
Short gameplay length, but enough cutscenes to make two movies.
Douglas Reilly, Vice President and General Manager of Lucasfilm Games, spoke withVarietyrecently about the game’s release. ShouldGreat Circleperform well commercially, it could mean more Indiana Jones games in the future. The team is already hard at work onDLC, which Reilly confirmed. “Right now, we’re focused on getting this one to the public and getting to the DLC and making this as successful as we can.”

As for the future of Indiana Jones in gaming? It’s something that’s likely to happen. “We’re always looking for great stories,” he adds. “And the good news is, there’s a lot of space between the films where we could tell more and more Indiana Jones stories that I think would be super interesting.”
How Future Indiana Jones Games May Affect The Franchise’s Timeline
GiventheIndiana Jonesmovies’chronological timeline, thereis plenty of space to tell more stories featuring Dr. Jones. We know, too, thatGreat Circletakes place in 1937, a year after Raiders of the Lost Ark, two years afterTemple of Doom, and one year beforeLast Crusade. That’s as compact as the Indiana Jones timeline gets;Kingdom of the Crystal Skulltakes place in 1957, andDial of Destinyoccurs in 1969.
December Xbox Game Pass Additions Headlined by Indiana Jones, Crash Team Racing
Ten games are coming to Xbox Game Pass this December!
Obviously, those later dates for the two most recent films are due to Ford’s age; it doesn’t make sense for an 80-year-old Harrison Ford to be playing Indiana Jones in the 1930s. That’s where continuing the story in video games comes into play. In fact, Lucasfilm, who had the final say when it came to casting voice actorTroy Bakerin the lead role, didn’t even consider Ford due to his age.
Reilly spoke in depth about the casting process, the amount of input they had at Lucasfilm, and their involvement in development.

That’s the place where we probably have the most input on these games,” Lucasfilm Games vice president and general manager Douglas Reilly said. “We don’t tell the teams how to run development. We don’t tell them how to run their day to day of the business. But when it comes to what touches the IPs, we are very much involved in making sure it looks, feels, sounds like Indiana Jones — so we approve casting. We get all the way through the process. We get concept art, to modeling, to final art and and obviously, with a game like this in particular, he is the character and you got to get him right, otherwise it doesn’t feel like an Indiana Jones experience. And between the work MachineGames did in representing him physically and the absolutely stunning work Troy has done voicing the character, you forget it’s not Harrison when you play it. He’s that good.
