Last week, Riot Games began releasing videos that offered glimpses of a new champion. Theteaserintroduces a broad-shouldered man determined to protect the people of Nazumah from monsters. Released a day later, thecinematicexpands on K’Sante’s backstory. The animation, created in collaboration with Eddy Production, follows K’Sante’s journey to face “his greatest battle.” Dubbed “the Hunter,” K’Sante defends his home alongside a romantic partner only known as “the Archer,” but is blinded by hubris. While K’Sante’s abilities have not yet been officially announced, the trailer gives players a brief look at the new champion’s unique skills and moves. These include dashes, knockbacks, and what appears to be a shield with E. Notably, K’Sante’s ultimate seems to enhance his other abilities. However, this reduces his health by a significant amount. Fans also got a clearer look at K’Sante’s weapons of choice — massive ntofos, similar to Okinawan tonfas.

Fans quickly took to forums and social media to speculate about K’Sante’s abilities. Based on the gameplay trailer, some players saw similarities between K’Sante’s abilities and those ofYasuoor Ornn. Several community members also expressed their concern that K’Sante would not be able to win 1v1s without support from a turret. However, others were impressed with the champion’s kit and look forward to using a tank with greater mobility.

As League of Legends' first Black LGBTQ+ champion, K’Sante is already making waves across the Internet before he joins the champions released in 2022 — Zeri,Renata Glasc, Bel’Veth, and Nilah. The Pride of Nazumah may have just as big of an impact on matchups in Summoner’s Rift. Players will have to wait a little longer to see more of K’Sante’s ntofos in action.
