Many fans seemed to prefer the nameProject Lover the current one.

I always thought Project L was an okay name if they kept it, but my friends have been of the opinion it was terrible and needed to be changed.
I’d like to thank Riot for officially calling it 2XKO, because maybe my friends will realise they were too harsh on Project L.pic.twitter.com/VLlw1WvgYm

Others shunned both names, suggesting a completely different alternative.
The Project L fighting game is now called “2XKO”
That’s probably the worst name for a game I’ve ever heard in my life.
It should have been named “Lethal Tempo” 😭pic.twitter.com/sa3ZV7Av6m

The hate wasn’t exclusive to X. A Reddit user commented:
This by far the worst name for a game I have seen. Especially for a fighting game where you want people to be able to say it. Also there’s a part of me that thinking that the naming is intentional for people to not associate it with league even though it has league characters.
Considering the awkward reputationLeaguehas with the gaming community in general, the user’s theory could be true.
