Kraventhe Hunter’s box office looks grim.
Despite thelow critical scoresit released to, there was always a chanceKraven the Hunteroutperformed its reviews. Plenty of movies do, including Sony’sMorbiusandVenomfilms. But the first day’s number wasn’t good.
According to Variety, Thursday’s previews made a mere $2 million, which projects to “a disappointing $13 million to $15 million in its opening weekend.”

Spider-Man 2: Who Is Kraven Hunting In The Game?
Some may think Kraven is a new villain in Spider-Man 2, but he has a long-running history in the comics.
A troubling trend for Sony’s Spider-Verse
If we look at opening weekend hauls for Sony’s previous “Spider-verse without Spider-Man” pictures, we see a concerning trend.
Would you be surprised if I told you Sony currently has no other live-action superhero movies in development? Because, for the first time in nearly a decade, they don’t.

A struggle of two-decades
Can you continue to have a Spider-Man universe that never features Spider-Man? Even if Marvel okays Tom Holland’s Spider-Man starring in a Sony film, does anyone trust Sony to do a good job?
Their live-action superhero track record, dating back to 2007’s Spider-Man 3, has been bleak. That includes the Nic Cage Ghost Rider movies from 2007 and 2011 and the Andrew GarfieldAmazingSpider-Manmovies from 2012 and 2014.

Add in the recent MCU-adjacent films and that’s nearly 20 years of pictures panned by critics and scoffed at by audiences.
Will theSpider-Versesave the day?
“But, Chris, what about the animatedSpider-Versefilms? Those are great!”
They are! But a lot of that credit goes to Phil Lord and Chris Miller having a vision and sticking to it. The initial success ofInto the Spider-Verseled to a massive half-decade, nine-figure contract to develop a live-action TV series for Sony.

Unfortunately, the combination of the pandemic and 2023 strikes ate the entire length of the deal. One show did came out of the partnership:Spider-Noir.Even then,it was reportedin August 2024 that Lord and Miller clashed with Sony so much that their deal wasn’t renewed.
While news is thatBeyond the Spider-Verseiscoming along, we’re almost a year past the initial release date of March 29th, 2024. One of the lead actorsdoesn’t know whenhe’s supposed to record dialogue. We have no release date.

Don’t get me wrong, we will have a release date. It’s not like Sony will scrap one of their most anticipated projects. It just doesn’t seem like Lord, Miller, and the studio have much of a future onceBeyondis out.
