The first arc of the finale saga inOne Piece(Egghead Island arc) brought some big twists in the character development of almost all the Navy Admirals who were introduced at the beginning of the series. Aokiji fought against his former mentor, Monkey D. Garp to aid his new Commander, Blackbeard. Akainu was hinted to know the true secrets of theOne Pieceworld.

But the Admiral who had the most amount of twists is none other than Kizaru, who not only fought against the Straw Hat Pirates but also had to kill one of his best friends, Dr. Vegapunk. While this was a development that was certainly not expected by fans, the thing that shocked everyone even more was the fact that Kizaru actually felt bad about killing Vegapunk.
This led many fans to believe that Kizaru might actually be a good character who was just stuffed under the pressure of his higher-ups and was forced to do the wrong thing. While this is certainly an understandable character plot it in no way justifies the past actions of the Navy Admiral that caused pain to a lot of otherOne Piececharacters.

The Suffering of Admiral Kizaru
Borsalino, also known as Kizaru has been the only character who has retained his title as the Admiral from the initial three that were introduced inOne Piece. He has always portrayed himself as a laid-back character, who only follows the orders given to him with no questions asked. However, when he was sent to kill one of his only friends, he hesitated a little bit.

Kizaru and Vegapunk’s relationship was something that fans never anticipated. The two were actually friends for 26 years and it grew even stronger when they were tasked to look after Jewelry Bonney and her father, Kuma. Thus, the entire Egghead Island arc portrayed Kizaru in a saddened and confused state as he could not decide between his duty and his friendship.
Ultimately he went with his duty and when he got the chance, he struck Vegapunk with a lightning attack that resulted in his untimely demise. When the rubble of battle settled, Kizaru was contacted by Akainu to discuss the details of the war, butKizaru showed angerabout the fact that he had to kill his friend because of his higher-ups inOne Piece.

One PieceFans Might Be Wrong About Kizaru
Kizaru’s regret for his actions changed the perception of his character completely. One Piecefans started to believe that Kizaru might actually be a decent character who was just blindly following orders and still had a conscience. Some even sympathized with him, as he was in pain of killing one of his few friends.
AlthoughKizaru’s emotions about killing Vegapunkmight be genuine, it does not give a justifiable excuse for his actions in the past in theOne Piecenarrative.

If he really was a good guy, he would have differentiated between the good and bad authoritative orders he received from his higher-ups and taken action against them.
