Itadori Yuji has come a long way from being questioned as the protagonist to finally taking down the King of Curses inJujutsu Kaisen. Despite his short time as a sorcerer, Yuji’s growth has been fascinating. In every fight, he evolves by huge margins, adding new powers to his arsenal. A spot reserved for the main character in Shonen anime and manga was secured by Gojo inJujutsu Kaisenup until the very end.
During the final fight against Sukuna, Yuji might have taken that spot from his master Gojo. Among the members of his generation, Yuji is easily the strongest character, on par with Yuta. The latter is more gifted as compared to Yuji but his potential gives him an edge. And that’s partially what has helped him surpass Gojo as well.
Itadori Yuji and His Skillset at the Beginning
Initially, what defined Yuji’s exceptional skills were his physical strength and his ability to co-exist with Sukuna. Had it been anyone else to consume Sukuna’s fingers, they would have died straight away. The first time Yuji experienced a spurt of growth was during his time with Nanami. After that, he was trained by almost all the important characters from Todo to Gojo.

What he learned from Nanami became the biggest testament to his extraordinary strength. This power was the Black Flash. The Black Flash amplifies any physical attack by increasing the impact by 2.5 times.
However, it’s extremely hard to use it willingly. There’s some confusion regarding how the Black Flash materializes into reality, but one factor that plays a huge role is concentration.
This confirmation comes from the fact that for a Black Flash to happen, cursed energy needs to be applied within a millionth fraction (0.000001 seconds) of a second, right after a physical attack. Nobody has been able to pull this off willingly.
However, Yuji’s skills make it seem like he can sense a Black Flash before it is about to happen. From dying in thefirst chapterto nearly mastering the Black Flash,Gege Akutamimight have passed the throne of the strongest to Yuji.
Yuji Has Already Surpassed Gojo
Gojo believed that Yuji was among the three students who would eventually surpass him. Even though it hasn’t been explicitly stated that Yuji has surpassed Gojo, there are some events that hint towards it. The two powers of Gojo that Yuji can never compare with are his Domain Expansion and his Six Eyes. In terms of potential, he might have already surpassed Gojo.
His compatibility with Black Flash gives him an edge over the others. His primary fighting style is hand-to-hand combat, and he is arguably the strongest at that. Black Flash is something that completes his fighting style. Gojo’s Black Flash is more impactful undoubtedly. However, Yuji can hit them more often, as a result of his concentration. Yuji is significantly younger than his teacher, and within months of being a sorcerer, he’s able to take on Sukuna.
With significant damage, he has withstood many offenses against the King of Curses. Near the end of their fight, it became increasingly difficult for Sukuna to recover from Yuji’s punches. Furthermore, Yuji successfully landed eight Black Flash consecutively, a feat that is unique to him. Yuji’s excellent skills and concentration during fights enable him to ensure that all the conditions necessary to hit a Black Flash are met. That allows him to hit it instinctively as we saw near the end of Shibuya Arc.

So this is one instance where Yuji has already surpassed Gojo and the rate at which he is growing confirms that it won’t be long before he completely surpasses Gojo. After all, the newer generation is bound to be stronger than the previous one.
