Jeremy Allen White needs to play Balder in the MCU

White has proven himself to be quite an actor multiple times. He has incredible range and has significantly bulked up for his role inThe Iron Claw. This positions White to play a superhero perfectly. Balder the Brave has been waiting in the wings for quite some time to appear in the MCU, having been part of each Thor film at some point in their development.

The character was also slated to appear in the MCU inDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, with Daniel Craig in talks to essay the role. However, the character failed to make an appearance as negotiations fell through, hence the empty seat in int Illuminati hall. However, despite all the near misses, the character, sort of, finally made his debut in the MCU, via the second season ofLoki. Here, Mobius and Loki directly encounter the statues of Thor, Odin and Balder, and Loki comments that nobody knows about Balder.

Balder Odinson’s MCU entry remains a distant dream

Here, we see Mobius recognizing him, calling him Balder the Brave. The camera does linger on the statue a moment too long, perhaps teasing the fans with the possibility of him existing in the MCU, and also perhaps teasing a debut shortly.

Jeremy Allen White as Balder could take the Thor franchise in a new direction

Now that Balder has been wholeheartedly introduced in the MCU, all the questions that would come with the introduction may have been dealt with. The presence of a secret sibling is no longer the issue, as the plotline will not be explored again, since it has already been with Hela.

The Loki inLokiSeason 2 is the same one that existed in 2012, therefore confirming that the Asgardian Royal Family as a whole at least knows about the existence of Baldur since the firstAvengers.

Introducing Baldur into the MCU, and having Jeremy Allen White play it, will provide us with a character that can carry Thor’s torch into the next generation of superheroes. Given that White is a significantly younger actor, he could carry the Asgardian side of the franchise without Marvel having to rely on Chris Hemsworth to keep it alive.

Thor, now a seasoned Avenger and one of the stronger beings in the MCU, could be kept for bigger conflicts, while Balder learns the ropes of what it takes to be a hero little by little as the narrative of the franchise progresses.
