Tim Burton’sBatmanfilms were certainly quite iconic. Although fans had their fair share of criticisms for them, the movies certainly had their moment and became memorable for fans in their own way. Another aspect that made them so much different from Christopher Nolan’s or Matt Reeves’ films was that they were a product of their time.

Having several aspects that made them defined by the era they were released in, the films have a special essence to them. During an interview, Kim Basinger revealed her favorite scene from her time in 1989’sBatmanand why it would not work today.
Kim Basinger reveals her favorite moment fromBatman
WhileTim Burton’sBatmanfilms are beloved in their own way, there are certainly some aspects that would not work in today’s time. Be it costume designs or jokes, some things are better left in the past. With this in mind,Kim Basinger, who played the role of Vicki Vale, revealed her favorite scene from the beloved series during an interview withThe Hollywood Reporter.
At one point during the film, Batman and Vale are running away from goons when they have to escape with the help of a grapple gun. Before shooting into the air, Batman asked Vale how much she weighed so that he could ensure that they fully made their way up.

Tim Burton’s “Kind of Crazy” Reason for Wanting Michael Keaton as Batman
Basinger confessed that since the film was released at a time when it was common for women to remove a few pounds when revealing their weight, that is what Vale did too. This would have been fine, had it not been a life-or-death situation.
I loved that moment in the movie when we’re supposed to go up on the grapple gun and Batman asks Vicki’s weight and she says 108.

The rope ends up not pulling them all the way up, and Batman later jokes that she is certainly not the weight she claims to be. Considering the setup and how well the joke landed, it is not surprising that it is Basinger’s favorite from the film.
Tim Burton’sBatmanhas jokes that simply would not work today
While the joke was certainly quite a funny moment in the film, Kim Basinger believes that it simply would not work in today’s time. She pointed out that the fact that Vicki Vale lied about her weight was very appropriate for women at the time.
The beauty standard was to be as skinny as possible and weigh as little as women could, even if it meant being unhealthy because of it.Since beauty standards have changed, such a joke simply would not work anymore, in Basinger’s opinion. Additionally, audiences no longer appreciate body-shaming, especially on projects as big-scale asBatmanfilms.

The sort of lie that stops them both from reaching the rooftop … Body shaming wasn’t a thing then, you couldn’t be skinny enough. It wasn’t pro curves like Kim Kardashian … I do love the joke with Vale and how Batman calls her out on it. Michael could always pull off that kind of dialogue.
The Penguin Episode 6 Has 1 Scene That May be the Clearest Reference to Tim Burton’s The Batman Returns
Regardless, Basinger complimented Burton’s film on how well it was able to execute the joke. She even added that Michael Keaton’s delivery of dialogue when Batman confronted Vale about her lie was also excellent, making the scene all the more hilarious.
