For nine seasons, the legal drama television seriesSuitscaptivated audiences worldwide with its sharp dialogues, high-stakes legal world, and the unbearable charm of its two beloved characters, Harvey Specter and Mike Ross. Following the life of Ross, a college dropout with a photographic memory, who gets hired by Specter even without having passed the bar exam.

While the show received immense popularity throughout its run, initially the storyline seemed too far-fetched from Mike’s photographic memory to increasingly dramatic courtroom showdowns. And this was something that even Gabriel Macht aka Harvey Specter couldn’t ignore.
Even Gabriel Macht acknowledged the absurdity of Suits in the initial seasons
Gabriel Machtstarred as thesuave and invincible Harvey SpecterinSuits, the best closer in a fictional New York City. While the show gave him immense popularity, even Macht agreed on how the initial seasons of the show were sort of nonsensical, leaning more into escapism rather than realism.
“With Meghan, a lot went unsaid”: Meghan Markle and Patrick J. Adams’ Last Days on ‘Suits’ Were Opposite of What Fans Would Expect
In an interview withHarper’s Bazaar, way back in 2017, Macht commented on how the series portrayed lawyers as larger-than-life figures, impeccably dressed and seemingly unbeatable in the courtroom. Labeling them as ‘superhero lawyers,’ the actor continued:
The show bounces between aspirational and realistic, and at the beginning it was super-aspirational, I feel. These lawyers didn’t really look like the average lawyer, they were always winning cases, and it was just too good to be true.

However, even with the exaggerated world of corporate law, the show’s aspirational nature attracted fans, becoming a key part of its appeal. But in the long run, while fans love the effortless confidence of Harvey Specter and Patrick J. Adams’ Mike Ross, its gradual turn to a more grounded series sealed the deal in helping it become one of the best legal dramas of all time.
Gabriel Macht onSuits’ballsy leap from escapism to realism
While Gabriel Macht acknowledged thatSuitswas a bit absurd at the start, he acknowledged the significant transformation it went over its nine-season run. This ballsy turn started in season 5 as the audience began to see Harvey’s confident facade fall off and deal with his anxiety attacks.
With Mike going to jail in Season 6, too, it’s becoming more realistic as we’ve gone along. Now, I’m not gonna say the season in prison was as realistic as you can get, but I do think we’ve been trying to ground the show in more ways.

Well, they did end up makingSuitsmore grounded and realistic as the series progressed. In season 6, Ross finally faced the consequences of his deception and by the time it came to the last season, both lead characters and supporting characters underwent satisfying character arcs, grounding the show and making it more authentic.
“We’ve even almost changed the US constitution…”: ‘Suits’ Star Patrick J. Adams Was Painfully Aware of Show’s Lamest Trick
AlthoughSuitsnever abandoned its slick, aspirational, confident style, the eventual realism and more nuanced exploration of vulnerabilities helped it become an enduring success.
