The allegations against Gaiman are not looking great for Tom Cruise and his Church of Scientology. Gaiman’s parents were part of the church, while the author had distanced himself from the belief system. However, there are still rumors that Gaiman and his wife Amanda Palmer are secretly Scientologists. The rumor itself could prove damaging to the church.

The allegations against Gaiman have already erupted into a controversy.Tom Cruisecould likely be dragged into this mess due to Gaiman’s parents’ affiliation with the Church of Scientology. TheCoralineauthor was brought up in a Sussex neighborhood, where his family was part of the Scientology community.

During an interview withThe Guardian, Gaiman shared that he had no affiliations to the church despite the popular rumors. Gaiman called these rumors“bonkers”and shared that he only believed in“the power of stories.”Even after his public denial, people refused to believe that he had no ties to Cruise’s cult community. Gaiman’s rumored ties could prove a headache for Cruise amid allegations.

Earlier, it was Cruise’s divorce battle with Katie Holmes that brought a bad rap to the actor and his belief system. Cruise has since regained the respect but the Church of Scientology still received flak. One of the recent events that clouded the organization in the grey was the incarceration of actor Danny Masterson.

On June 28, 2025, Masterson wassentenced to 30 years in prisonin the case that began as a s*xual misconduct allegation in 2017. Masterson met all three victims in his case through the Church of Scientology. It was alleged that the church attempted to silence the victims. The church’s interference allegedly caused a 20 year delay in bringing justice to the victims.

After each victim reported the assault to the police, they were allegedly declared a suppressive person and ejected from the church (via LA Times). Gaiman’s issue may not be as damaging to the church but it could still bring unwanted attention towards them.
