In the conversation, Hamill revealed that Fisher’s performance on the show made him want to host an episode of the popular series created by Lorne Michaels. Hamill stated:

Well, let me tell you about SNL. Carrie [Fisher] did it back in the day with the original cast. I was over the moon because it was my favorite show, Carrie was great on it, and it made me really want to do it.
Hamill added that despite his strong desire to host an episode ofSNL, it wasn’t one of the gigs that an actor could secure through their agent.

When I read The Last Jedi’s script, I said, ‘OK, well, that’s it for me.

Hamill made the above statement, explaining that he started to disengage himself from his most iconic role afterThe Last Jedi. However, to his surprise, he was asked to reprise it forThe MandalorianandThe Book of Boba Fett, using the de-aging technology.
