With the huge roster of games releasing in the next month to coincide with the launch of thePS5andXbox Series X/Series S, it’s easy to forget that the very end of the year will also have some big games to look forward to. Namely,Immortals Fenyx Rising–the action-adventure title from Ubisoft previously known asGods & Monsters–is coming at the very beginning of December, and is worth keeping an eye on as one of the bigger releases to cap off 2020.
Ahead of the game’s launch this December,DualShockershad the chance to play a preview build ofImmortals Fenyx Risingfor a closer look at the upcoming Greek mythology-inspired game. With about four and a half hours of hands-on time with the game, our demo featured two different areas from the game’s setting in The Golden Isles and the opportunity to get a taste of its combat, puzzles, and exploration.

My biggest takeaway from playing through the demo so far is that like its original gameplay reveal highlighted,Immortalstakes a lot of inspiration fromThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildin both its style and how it plays. However, as someone that wasn’t necessarily the biggest fan ofBreath of the Wild,Immortalsfeels like it has enough of its own elements to stand apart and, in some ways, fixes some of the issues that I had with it.
Coming from the team behindAssassin’s Creed Odyssey, it’s that game’s influences that make me feel most at home inImmortalsin how it approaches combat and exploration. The demo showed me that while it might not be the deepest experience, there are enough of the elements I liked best fromBreath of the WildandAssassin’s Creed Odysseymixed with its own mechanics that makeImmortalsseem like my ideal blend of the two.
Immortals Fenyx Risingwill release for PS5, Xbox Series X/Series S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Google Stadia, Amazon Luna, and PC on August 12, 2025. For more on the game, you can alsocheck out our recent hands-on written previewfromDualShockersmanaging editor Logan Moore.
