Over the decades, many anime and manga series have come and gone, but only a few can stick forever. Masashi Kishimoto’sNarutois one such series that will always remain immortal in the Shonen genre. Its sequel,Boruto, on the other hand, has not been received with as much excitement.

Despite its obvious lack of quality, when compared toNaruto, Borutostill has fans fighting for it. But while defending one’s favorite series is fine, some fans have taken it to the next level by declaringNarutois inferior to its sequel.

Fan ClaimsBorutoHas OvertakenNarutoas a Protagonist in Only 16 Chapters ofTwo Blue Vortex

In a viral tweet, aBorutofan claimed that within the 16 chapters ofTwo Blue Vortexthat have been released so far, thenew protagonist has already surpassed Narutoas a main character. While the statement makes their love for the character clear, it also offends a majority ofNarutofans.

It’s crazy how we are only 16 chapters into TBV & Boruto has already surpassed Naruto as a MC,Kawaki is a better deuteragonist than Sasuke,Koji is a better sensei than Jiraiya &Himawari surpassed Hinata as a better female lead.Ikemoto is truly on a generational run.🔥pic.twitter.com/6hq9UJHguP

The tweet further goes on to claim Kawaki is a better deuteragonist than Sasuke. It also states that some of the characters inBoruto, like Koji and Himawari, are better than Jiraiya and Hinata. Saying that this tweet has gaslighted Naruto fans would be an understatement, as the comments are filled with people calling out the post.

“As soon as Boruto activates his Karma it’s all over”: 3 Different Ways Naruto and Sasuke vs Boruto Play Out

Fans of the OG series claim that Boruto simply does not have the same charm as Naruto. He is often called a privileged boy who has never been involved in true war. Since his father is a Hokage, Boruto never had to go through the same struggles as Naruto did. Seeing as how most of the OG characters have been nerfed in the sequel,Borutomight look better in comparison temporarily. But in the greater picture,he still cannot overtake Naruto.

WhyBorutoMight Never SurpassNarutoas a Series

Fans were initially happy to receive aNarutosequel. But ever since Naruto, Sasuke, and other characters from the original anime were defamed and side-tracked, fans have never gotten over the betrayal.Borutoalso introduced inconsistent power levels, which has annoyed fans at times. InNaruto, the backstories and motives of villains were well-explored, to the point that many readers/watchers fell in love with the antagonists. However,Borutoonly introduces a strong villain as the plot needs, without any justification.

Another downside ofBorutowas its introduction of technological advancements. Fans felt that it took away the mystical and intriguing nature of shinobis. World peace might have brought a massive advancement in civilization and technology, but it takes away from the main focus of the series. The plot itself might often feel rushed and lacking depth.

When talking strictly about anime,Borutois famous for its huge amount of fillers. The inconsistent animation by Studio Pierrot has also tarnished the series. Due to the fillers, the story automatically becomes slow. The abundance of Otsutsukis and related villains has taken away from the series as opposed to the refreshing villains and their motives inNaruto.

NarutoandBorutomanga are available to read on Viz Media, and the anime are currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
