Though actor Doug Jones, who played Saru, mentioned that he was happy with the ending, he did not mind coming back to the series.

According to Jones, the cast did not feel like the fifth season would be the end, as the decision to end the series was a surprise. He mentioned in an interview withTrek Moviethat the producers had plans for a sixth season but the decision came from the higher-ups. Hence, the makers had to wrap up many arcs quickly in the final season.

Despite being satisfied with Saru’s arc of marrying T’Rina and becoming an ambassador, Jones mentioned that he would be willing to come back to the show. He said,

I feel that yes, had we come back, I would have been ready to do all 10 episodes again. Remember we started season 1 with 15 episodes. So the 10-episode model was much more palatable, living away from home in Toronto.

Jones reportedly also wondered where his character might have gone had they decided to go for more seasons as he knew the producers had more plans. He also mentioned that despite the satisfying arc, the ending was bittersweet.
