The first-ever open-worldStar Warsgame,Star Wars Outlawsis releasing later this year on August 30th. The Ubisoft title has already generated a lot of hype and even more so since the story trailer dropped last week. Narrative Director, Navid Khavari answered a series of questions posed by GameInformer, after the Cinema-Con presentation of the game.

Khavari revealed howStar Warswas connected to him personally, having been connected to the universe ofStar Warsright from his childhood. He also went on to reveal his favorite generation ofStar Warsfilms, being a man from the 80s.

Answering questions during an interview withGameInformer, Khavari spoke in length about the upcomingStar Warstitle by Ubisoft,Star Wars Outlaws, and about the game’s protagonist, Kay Vess. As for his connection to theStar Warsuniverse, Khavari revealed being involved with Star Wars and credited his father and brother for having introduced him to the Star Wars franchise.

Khavari mentioned his brother had the classic Kenner toys, which served as one of his first experiences having made up stories without ever having watched any of the films yet by that point. Having started watching theStar Warsmovies with his father and brother, Khavari mentioned having always thought of the franchise as a bonding experience. He said:
I’ve got a very deep, familial, and personal attachment to Star Wars.

As for his favorite generation ofStar Warsfilms, Khavari mentioned the original trilogy as his choice, being “a child of the eighties“. Khavari revealedStar Wars: The Empire Strikes Backas his favorite movie in the franchise, as it had “high stakes, an emotional journey, and characters coming into their own against a backdrop of a civil war“.
Khavari also spoke about characters from theStar Warsuniverse, who will be seen in the upcoming Ubisoft title.

Khavari also confirmed that Jabba the Hutt is included in the Ubisoft title at the San Diego Comic-Con. Khavari revealed Dee Bradley Baker will voice Jabba in the game, a character he feels is an “essential part of telling a scoundrel story in this era.”

Khavari confirmed the game will feature several other popular characters as well, but declined to spoil it any further. As for the protagonist herself, Khavari described Kay as being a rookie scoundrel who is “willing to risk it all, has a quick wit, and is a bit of a hot head“.
Along with her companion, Nix, Kay is said to rely on each other’s skills and be resourceful as thieves. Khavari also revealed that the world that the game is set in, Toshara is unlike any other world seen in theStar Warsgalaxy.

Khavari mentioned having come full circle from being aStar Warsfan all his life to now feeling surreal after “having the opportunity to write new stories in the Star Wars galaxy“.
