Despite Fallout 1 and 2 being trimetric projection titles, Todd Howard reveals that Bethesda has no plans to remake them.

The latter is a post-apocalyptic RPG series that began with two trimeric projection games but shifted the camera perspective with the third game. Howard was recently asked about his thoughts on remaking games likeFallout 1andFallout 2, and he had an answer that would likely divide fans.

Per Todd Howard, Part of What Makes Games Like Fallout 1 Games Great Is Their ‘Age’

Howard has been associated with most RPG games from Bethesda at the highest levels. Despite the latest game from the studio being underwhelming, especially for fans familiar with some other works by Bethesda, it seems like thestudio director is not giving up on the space RPG any time soon.

“We want to support different playstyles as much as we can”: For Todd Howard, One Fallout Game is the Closest You Can Come to a Non Violent Ending

In a recent interview with the YouTuber MrMattyPlays, Howard was asked about his thoughts on remaking the originalFalloutgames, porting them to modern consoles and making them accessible to more players. His response was the following:

A main priority for us is to ensure that they are available and that you can play them [on PC]…and making sure they run okay…beyond that…we have talked about it…they haven’t been in those areas [of devlopment]…I think some of the charm of games from that era…is a little bit of that age

Now, we gamers have a lot of examples in recent times that have proved that if done well and developed with a sense of agency and a focus on retaining the essence of the original, remakes do work out.

The most prominent example might be theResident Evilremakes, which appealed to fans of the original and brought in new audiences for the franchise and the titles.

Will the Indie remake of the title prompt Bethesda to take action?

There Is Already a Fallout 2 Remake in Development, Just Not by Bethesda

Fallout 1 and 2had immense popularity when it first came out in the late 20th century. This was when video games were only accessible on personal computers, and consoles were neither as powerful nor as popular as now.

Even before Howard made his plans clear and asserted that there weren’t any plans to overhaul the original titles in the post-apocalyptic RPG, some fans decided to take matters into their own hands. This led to Damion Daponte, a fan ofFallout 2, leading the way for Project Arroyo, the title’s first-person remake.

Thegame’s development is gathering steam, and the title may soon come to Valve’s PC marketplace, too. If the game does well commercially, after factoring in the fact that it is a 100-person project, Bethesda might start thinking about remaking the classic Fallout titles.
