Chapter 2 ofBlack Myth Wukonghas a strong act to follow after the game’s powerful opening chapter. However, thanks to a breathtaking setting,brutal bosses, andinteresting side quests, it delivers a chapter as good if not better than the first.
However, if you want to move on to the next icy installment in chapter 3, you’ll need to beat Yellow Wind Ridge’s final boss, the Yellow Wind Sage.

This powerful boss is right in the middle of that giant tornado you probably spotted the moment you arrived. But if you prepare well and learn how this boss ticks, you just might be able to take them down and reclaim your second relic.
Where is the Yellow Wind Sage?
The Yellow Wind Sage isfound in the Yellow Wind Formation area of the mapwithin the second chapter.
This is an area that can be accessed via two different paths. Players caneither defeat the Stone Vanguardand use the Tally to open the door down to the valley where the huge tornado is raging.
Or alternatively,you can take on the Tiger Vanguardand access the secret area leading to the NPC that allows you to create Celestial Medicine.Which will then lead you out to the other side of this valley.
Taking on these fights will also grant you new abilities that can be very helpful when taking on the Yellow Wind Sage,such as theRock Solid Spelland theA Pluck of ManySpell.
While you may avoid beating both Vanguards, as a means of preparation for the difficult fight ahead, we would suggest you try to complete all boss fights in chapter two before taking on this one.
How to Prepare For The Yellow Wind Sage
The Yellow Wind Sage is a tough boss which hits hard, has a wide range of attacks, and has access to elemental attacks. So you’ll want to pack items, medicines, and gear that will serve you well during this encounter.
Firstly, the Yellow Wind Sage uses lightning attacks,so you’ll want to concoctShock-Quelling Powder,as this will increase your shock resistance. Then, you may further increase this resistance by crafting andequipping theGaleguard Beastmaw Armorarmor set.
Then, for the rest of your loadout, I suggest using theWind Bear Staff,the Wandering Wight Spirit, theAgate JarandCat’s Eye BeadsCurios, and theTrailblazer’s Scarlet Gourd.
Then lastly,I would highly recommend defeating the Tiger Vanguard boss to gain access to Celestial Medicine crafting. By this point,you will have plenty of Mind Coresthat can be put to good use. I poured most of my into upgrading Mana, but you do what suits your playstyle best.
How to Beat The Yellow Wind Sage
When you enter the fight, it will take quite some time for the Yellow Wind Sage to sense your presence and get to their feet,so use this slow start to cast anImmobilizespell and whack him a few times.
After they finally get up, they’ll begin to show their might with a series of strong attacks. They will likely use a ground stab attack where they pierce the ground, and a series of pitchforks rise from the earth, acting as an AOE attack.The best way to avoid this is by dodging either side, or getting behind them.
They will also use a triple slash attack followed by a leaping attack. Again, this is a very tame combo that can be avoided with some well-timed dodges or by positioning behind the Yellow Wind Sage.
Honestly,the battle doesn’t really get going until you work them down to about 75% health. At this point, they will stir up the sands and form a hurricane around the arena, trapping the player in a tighter space. Then, they willuse an attack where they take a sand form, allowing them to rush you, disappear, and gear up to attack you again.
The only answer to this is to remain vigilant, time your dodges well, as the dodge window is generous enough, and when they take their normal form again, get up close and personal to attack them while they recover.
After this sequence, they can access new, more deadly moves. Such as their kick attack, where they will punt your into the air and jab you with their staff before standing on your head when you’re facedown in the sand. This chips away a lot of your health,so if he starts kicking, try to get some distance.
They will also have access to more dynamic attacks where they will spin through the air, leaping back and forth to strike you without giving you any chance to counter. During these attacks, all you may really do is go on the defensive and try to nail perfect dodges.
Plus, they will also summon a tornado in the already cramped space, which will travel around the arena as you fight. You’ll need to try and keep one eye on its position at all times, because if you get caught up in it,it will launch you into the air, deal decent damage, and leave you open to an attack from the Sage.
In the latter stages of the fight the battle area will become very cramped, and if you push the Yellow Wind Sage to the edges, they will exit into the tornado, whilst you will be left inside due to an invisible barrier. Which allows them to cast ranged attacks while hardly visible. So attempt to fight them solely in the middle of the arena if possible.
Aside from a few powerful stomp attacks and the occasional ranged attack, which you’re unlikely to see at all due to the cramped nature of the battle area, that’s how the fight against the Yellow Wind Sage will play out.
The goal here is to pick your moments, be comfortable at close quarters with them, watch out for the tornado blowing around the battlefield, and do your best to stay behind them, as then they can only hurt you with their more dynamic leaping attacks.
