Samuel L. Jackson’s role as Nick Fury single-handedly changed the character forever. Bringing his own twist to his performance, the actor ended up having a lasting effect on the beloved S.H.I.E.L.D. agent to the point that his comic version began to imitate the iconic demeanor.

Although now the world knows how great a choice he was for the role, the same was not the case when he was cast. So much so, that even Jackson was wary when Kevin Feige first approached him with the role. During an interview, the actor revealed that he had a very big concern when he was first offered the role of Fury.
Samuel L. Jackson Was Wary
Samuel L. Jackson has been playing the role of Nick Fury for many years now, being a key part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, when he was first offered the role by Kevin Feige, he could not seem to imagine himself playing a character for this long. During an interview withGQ, the actor revealed the only doubt he had when he was first thinking about accepting the offer.
When Feige approached the actor, it was not to ask him to make a cameo inIron Manor guest star inCaptain America: The First Avenger. When he approached the legendary actor to be a part of the MCU, he came up with a nine-picture deal for him to agree to. Although the move was quite bold, there was one reason that made Jackson concerned.

I knew I had a nine-picture deal. When Kevin [Feige] said that “We’re gonna offer you a nine picture deal,’ I was like, “How long I gotta stay alive to make nine movies?” Not the quickest process in the world. People don’t do it.
In a typical world, making nine big-production movies about superheroes can take decades. From drawing up a script to casting, then filming and post-production can take a very long time. With this in mind, the actor was very concerned about how long he would have to be a part of a franchise as new as Marvel at the time.

Samuel L. Jackson Learned That Marvel Works Fast
WhatSamuel L. Jacksondid not know is that Marvel was planning on laying down the early chapters of its Cinematic Universe very quickly. With the starting point being Robert Downey Jr’sIron Man,the franchise ended up releasing six films in the span of four years, ranging fromIron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, andThe Avengers.
Looking back now, Jackson pointed out that he had no idea that the MCU would work as fast as it did, releasing one project after another and having at least one film release every year. He even joked that he did not think that those nine films would come out in the span of two-and-a-half years.

I didn’t know they were going to make nine movies in like two and a half years. That’s kind of crazy!
