Since the start ofHouse of the Dragon, Viserys has been reluctant to name her daughter Rhaenyra as his successor to the Iron Throne. He knew that accepting a lady as their ruler wouldn’t be easy for people to accept, especially for his family, as there were quite a few promising young princes available to take this role. Therefore, he clarified his wish on several occasions before and also in the recent episode. Despite being completely worn out due to his sickness, Viserys gathers his strength to announce Rhaenyra as his heir again and unite his family.

But, what happened betweenAlicentand Viserys at the end of the episode put all his efforts in vain. It was a complete misunderstanding on their respective parts, but this mistake is going to bring the biggest war that George R. R. Martin’s book has ever seen. So, what really happened between the King and the Queen?
Discussion About Aegon’s Prophecy (The Song Of Ice And Fire)
Viserys' disease had a great impact on his eyesight, and sometimes he isn’t able to recognize people. When Rhaenyra comes to her father’s chamber to meet him, he mistakes her for Alicent. She asks her father if he believes Aegon’s dream, The Song of Ice and Fire, to be true.
Rhaenyra seems doubtful about her succession and states that by naming her the heir, Viserys has divided the realm. Despite her doubts, Viserys shows his trust in her and also calls her his only child. At last, she requests her father to defend her and her children in court the following day. Viserys comes to the court to fulfill his daughter’s wish and announces Lucerys as the heir to the Driftmark.

The Discussion Continues
At the end of the episode, Viserys mistakes Alicent for Rhaenyra and continues their conversation from before regarding Aegon’s dream about The Song of Ice and Fire. For Alicent, his words are completely out of context, but she still couldn’t tell that he was considering her Rhaenyra.
Viserys says that he believes in Aegon the Conqueror’s dream, but Alicent misinterprets that he is talking about their son Aegon. He continues speaking and says that “It is you,” “You are the one,” and “You must do this” to unite the realm. Alicent now believes that Viserys' last wish is to crown their son Aegon as the next heir to the Iron Throne. Finally, King Viserys dies, uttering his last words, “My Love,” clearly for his first wife, Queen Aemma Targaryen.

What Would Be The Result Of This Misunderstanding?
Now that Viserys is dead, there’s no one else left to clear up this confusion, and Alicent is sure of the king’s final orders to name Aegon as his heir. But, with Rhaenyra being promised the throne for such a long time, it wouldn’t be easy to snatch that title from her.
It will result in the formation of two groups, Greens and Blacks, where the Greens will support Aegon’s claim, while the Blacks will support Rhaenyra’s. The two groups will witness a civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons, which, in the books, lasted for around 3 years.
