PlayStationkept it simple this morning bytweetingan image of the game, along with the caption “Sharpen your needles – confirmingHollow Knight: Silksongis coming to PS5 and PS4.” Silksong is currently one of the most anticipated sequels in gaming, so it wouldn’t have been ideal for Sony had the game been available everywhere, excepttheir platform, and for a while, it was looking like that was going to be the case. The game was originally revealed in 2019, its first trailer’s description only mentioning aSwitchandPCrelease. More recently, in theXboxshowcase of Summer Game Fest 2022, the game was confirmed to be dropping onXbox Game Passthe day of release.
Still, no information had been given about a PlayStation version, and the game’sofficial websitelisted only Switch, Xbox, and some PC platforms. Given the presence of Silksong on the Xbox showcase and its announced Game Pass inclusion, many assumed Xbox had also acquired some sort of exclusivity deal to keep the game off PlayStation, but it’s now clear that is not the case.

The reason so many are excited about Silksong is that it’s the sequel to 2017’s indie darlingHollow Knight. Hollow Knight is a side-scrolling action game that’s undeniably regarded as one of the best indie games of the modern era, as well as a paragon for the ‘Metriodvania’ subgenre. It was the debut title for Australian indie studio Team Cherry, who revealed the game had garnered more than 2.8 million sales, and that was back in 2019.
Hollow Knight: Silksong’s official website speaks of the game’s premise, describing how the main character Hornet gets captured and taken to a distant, unfamiliar land. It’s said that Hornet will have a suite of new moves compared to the Knight of the first game. She’ll need them, for Team Cherry touts 150 all-new enemies in this game, which will “stand between Hornet and the shining citadel crowning the kingdom.” The developer also advertises a so-called ‘Silk Soul’ mode, which you can only access once you beat the game. It’s said the mode “spins the game into a unique, challenging experience.”
What’s unfortunate is that still no release date, or even a release window, is known for Hollow Knight: Silksong. The Xbox showcase claimed all the games they presented were coming out in a year’s time, meaning a release could be up until June 2023. Fans have made the reasonable assumption that this dated Silksong to release before then. However, nothing has been yet confirmed by Team Cherry, and even if this is true, delays are always a possibility.
