Have you ever wondered what America’s sweetheart Marilyn Monroe might have looked like when she was cranky and hungry? Well, maybe not pretty. But who knew a hangry Monroe would transition into the legendary actor Willem Dafoe?

A digital Snickers billboard set up on a street in New York City showed the famous scene from the 1955 filmSeven Year Itchwith Marilyn Monroe standing over a blowing subway grate in a white dress. But upon closer inspection, the actress suddenly looked very different.
Well, it was apparently Willem Dafoe wearing the white dress and recreating the scene for Snickers’ clever new ad for Super Bowl 50.

Willem Dafoe Appeared as Hungry Marilyn Monroe in Snickers’ Super Bowl 50 Ad
Back in 2016, in a bold move, Snickers put a hilarious twist on a beloved classic by imagining the legendaryWillem Dafoeas a hangry Marilyn Monroe. Well, putting up a digital billboard in the busy streets of New York City for Super Bowl 50, the chocolate brand reimagined the iconic scene fromSeven Year Itch, where Monroe’s ethereal figure was seen standing above a subway grate with her white dress billowing in the wind.
According to the video availableonline, the reimagination of Marilyn Monroe’s nostalgic image had a cheeky twist wherein the glamorous actress morphed into a decidedly less glamorous Willem Dafoe, in the same flowing white dress, only this time with an unmistakable look of grumpiness. Snickers’ creative genius featured Dafoe in their ad, with the idea of reminding people that everyone loses their sultry charm when they’re hungry.

The commercial starts with the quintessential blonde bombshellMarilyn Monroe, shooting the famous billowing dress scene from the 1955 classic, when suddenly, as the camera pans up from the gusting subway grate we see it’s not Monroe, but the muscular and hairy legs with the popular villainous face of actor Willem Dafoe. Calling it a “disaster”, Dafoe loses the demeanor of a diva and almost transitions intoMCU’s grumpy Green Goblin.

Appearing desperate and in need of a chocolate fix, Willem Dafoe’s comedic timing and willingness to poke fun at himself steal the show. Therefore, getting back to the point, a production assistant hands Dafoe a Snickers bar and says “Miss Monroe, eat a Snickers, you get a little cranky when you’re hungry.” Defying all expectations with their creative ad and leaving viewers rolling with laughter, Snickers outdid themselves with this Super Bowl 50 commercial.
