MORE:God Of War Ragnarok: What Is Fimbulwinter? The core premise of the narrative in God of War Ragnarok is the conclusion of Fimbulwinter and the dreaded arrival of Ragnarok. In the last game, Kratos and Atreus killed Baldur, Magni, and Modi, and their actions ended up triggering Fimbulwinter, the precursor to Ragnarok. Being aware of the far-reaching consequences of Fimbulwinter and Ragnarok, Kratos decides to begin intense training with Atreus in preparation for what is to come. However, a series of events lead to their cover being blown, and Thor and Odin come to make a truce with Kratos and Atreus.

Firstly, Odin calls Kratos guilty of the murder of Magni, Modi, and Baldur and then comes up with quite a surprising offer. He asks Kratos to not get in his way, and in return, Odin will not bother him. He also asks Atreus to give up his search for Tyr. From the looks of it, many would expect that this offer would make a lot of sense for Kratos. Kratos wants to protect his son, and staying away from the impending threat of the gods would be the best way to achieve that. But why did he decline the offer?

For veterans of the franchise, the decision would not have been that surprising. Kratos has had quite a rough history with the gods, and that was highlighted in the previous game as well. Kratos' initial hostility towards Freya after learning she was a goddess was a mere testament to the same. Moreover, Mimir had warned Kratos time and again about Odin’s treachery. Thus, Kratos decided that it was in their best interests to not get into any kind of agreement with Odin, having had his fair share of ill experiences with other gods.
