If you’re here, you’re probably looking for some tips and tricks to defeat Odin. First, congratulations! This is the final boss fight of the main story! Second, you’ve come to the right place. We can give you a good idea of what you’ll face in each phase as you go toe to toe with the most powerful of the Norse gods.
Phase One: Spells And Spears
As you would expect, Odin has a lot of tricks up his sleeve. However, he doesn’t reveal them all at once, so you can expect this first phase to be fairly straightforward.
Attacking With The Spear/Staff
Occasionally, Odin will charge in with his spear/staff.This attack is accompanied by a yellow ring, meaning that it can’t be blocked, but it can be parried. If you go for the parry, you might be able to get in a few hits after a successful parry.
Elemental Beams
When Odin flies into the air, he’s charging an elemental beam that will shoot out when he lands back on the ground. This attack is accompanied by a red ring, meaning you need to dodge out of the way, or you’ll take some damage and potentially suffer a status effect.
Magic Spells
Odin will shoot out three purple missiles that converge to hit you at the same time. This attack doesn’t have a yellow or red ring attached, so it can be blocked with your shield. This isn’t a particularly fast attack, so you’re able to also dodge out of the way of it pretty easily.

Phase Two: Shattered Ground
During this phase, Odin breaks the ground beneath you, creating three distinct platforms for you to jump between. He moves between these platforms pretty quickly, so you’ll have to put on a bit of chase to get to him.The good news is that the game’s checkpoints are very forgiving. So, if you find yourself falling down in phase two of the fight, you won’t be forced to repeat phase one.
The Deadly Platform
A red ring will flash from Odin, and the ground beneath you will begin to glow. When that happens, you need to run to a different platform as fast as you’re able to. If you don’t, the resulting attack will knock out Kratos, and you’ll have to restart the phase.
Double Trouble
When Odin moves to the center of the three platforms, he will begin a red-ringed attack that will cause two of the platforms to glow. This time you’ll need to run to the one platform that isn’t glowing. This is another deadly attack, so move as quickly as you can and get to safety.
Aerial Charge
After performing the double platform attack, Odin will leap into the air and charge Kratos with great speed. This is a red-ringed attack that cannot be blocked, so you’ll need to dodge to one side or the other to avoid taking major damage.

Phase Three: Into The Pit
After the cutscene ends, you’ll have both Atreus and Freya as allies in this fight against Odin. This time you’ll be fighting in Odin’s lair, which means you’re on his home turf. He’s going to become very aggressive in this phase, pulling out even more attacks than he has before.
Odin’s Whip
Odin will begin attacking you with a magical whip that has quite a long reach. This attack is accompanied by a red ring, meaning your only option is to dodge it.Be careful not to get hit by this attack, as he will sometimes chain together two or three whip attacks in an attempt to hit you.
Deadly Orbs
Odin will sometimes summon these large orbs in the air that slowly make their way to you. They aren’t difficult to avoid, but they’re one more thing to keep track of on an already chaotic battlefield.Be sure to keep an eye on them, so they don’t sneak up on you while you’re fighting Odin or dealing with one of his other attacks.
Odin’s Ravens
This is a yellow-ringed attack.Odin will send out a flock of ravens that, if they catch you unaware, will leave you vulnerable as you repeatedly tap X to swat them away. It’s a tricky move that you’ll want to avoid.
Blue Ringed Attack
Odin will occasionally try to get off a blue-ringed area-of-effect attack. If you see the double blue rings, charge him and double-tap L1 to interrupt him with your shield slam. This will cancel the attack and leave Odin vulnerable for a moment.

Phase Four: A Dance Of Fire And Ice
At this point, Odin is desperate and will pull out all the stops to defeat you. He’s going to throw in some vicious new tactics in addition to attacks you’ve already seen.Stay on your toes because you’re close to the end of the fight.
Sweeping Fire
Odin will use a spellbook that erupts with fire as he sends it sweeping in a line around the room. The only way to avoid this is to dodge through it. Otherwise, you’ll take damage and likely lit yourself on fire.
Ice, Fire, And Neutral Armor
During this phase of the fight, Odin will summon extra armor in the form of a swirling sphere around him.If the sphere belongs to an element, like blue frost, you can damage it greatly by hitting it with fire. In that case, you might want to use a runic attack with your Blades of Chaos. If the shield is fiery, you’ll want to hit it with frost attacks to bring it down quickly.
Pools Of Ice, Fire, Lightning, And Poison
Like with Thor, you’ll see red circles on the ground where Odin is about to drop pools of deadly elements. These pools will persist on the ground for a while, so watch out for them as you try to maneuver around the fight. It’s easy to charge Odin and accidentally run through a pool of poison by mistake.
Trigger The Takedown
Once you’ve gotten Odin down to minimal health, press R3 to trigger the finale and finish Odin off once and for all.
Quicktime Finale
Once you’ve triggered the takedown for Odin, you’ll need to do a bit of a quicktime event before entering another cutscene that will see you finish the main story of the game.
