Though a fairly compact experience,Ghostrunner 2brings backthe magic of the first entryand adds new elements to the game. The game picks up the story where the first one left the player, and introduces new enemies for the player to defeat. The story isn’t as great as before, but it’s not the main focus of the game anyway.

Ghostrunner 2 Review - Excellence of Execution

Welcome back to Dharma.

The combat is as crisp as always, despite some bad optimization, and feels great when the game is running smoothly. Ultimate abilities aren’t that important in the grand scheme of things, but they do play an important role. There are five of them in total, and all of them make you feel like a badass cyborg ninja.

Ghostrunner 2

Control Your Enemies

Pros & Cons

Overlord is less of an ability that makes you feel like a ninja, and more of something that will make you become a wizard. So if you ever wanted to feel like the most futuristic wizard in Hogwarts, this is your time to shine. Overlord lets the player take control of an enemy, who will then fight for you, killing other enemies. At higher levels, you’ll have the ability to blow up the mind-controlled enemy in question and to mind-control multiple enemies at the same time!

You’ll want to take control of the higher-tier enemies who can deal lots of damage for the maximum output of Overlord, but it’s not very good for the most part. It doesn’t quite fit the theme of the game and the potential for damage is limited by a lot of factors, making it undesirable for most players. It’s still a fun ability to play around with, but it’s nothing to write home about.

4Motoric Overload

Become Better

Motoric Overload does exactly what you might expect it to do, it overloads Jack’s abilities and takes them up a notch. In practice, this makes you feel even more like a badass and helps you annihilate any enemy in your way. Most important of all, the ultimate will make you immune to one strike per use as well (Level 3), making it indispensable for many situations.

While there are many places where this ultimate can come in handy, it’s undeniable that there are diminishing returns to feeling like a badass. You can already jump around pretty high and run on walls. What’s running faster going to do for you? Compared to the other ultimates in your arsenal, Motoric Overload feels a little bit short, though it’s still worth a try if nothing else.

The only thing missing from the player’s arsenal that you’d want is teleportation. The bullet time you get when dashing is close, but Blink is closer. This ultimate lets you choose 2–3 targets, and teleports you straight to them, cleaving them in half in the process. It makes you feel like a ruthless killer out for blood, and it’s super useful, no matter what the situation.

Stuck at the Cathedral Gate Puzzle in Ghostrunner 2? This guide is here to help.

The range for Blink is only limited by the player’s own line of sight, though even seemingly minor obstructions can eliminate a potential target from your options. Once upgraded, the Blink ability returns you to where you started from (Level 2), and lets you kill three enemies instead of just two (Level 3). you may upgrade your abilities by equipping the Ultimate Booster Upgrade Chips on your motherboard.

2Sensory Overdrive

Extended Bullet Time

A lot of people seem to dismiss Sensory Overdrive as a redundant ability, but it’s extremely useful for dispatching enemies and feeling great the entire time. The Ultimate ability basically extends the bullet time you enter during the dash and makes it last for a fairly long time, giving Jack a lot of leeway in killing everything around him. Higher levels of Sensory Overdrive give the player more time to, well, stop time, and let you grapple towards your enemies when dashing.

From a game mechanic level, Sensory Overdrive isn’t anything unique. It’s just another version of an already existing ability that you’re able to use fairly often, leading to some people considering it uninteresting. However, on a practical gameplay level, Sensory Overdrive lets the player kill a whole lot of enemies without any hassle, and it does all that without giving a sense of detachment you’d feel when using Flux.

Killer Beam

Flux is the best of the best, the greatest of the bunch, and the most effective at killing the most amount of enemies in the least amount of time. Ironically, it’s also the first one you get. This ultimate ability lets the player aim (very slowly) at anything that’s alive to stop letting it live. This ultimate has the most potential for killing your enemies, killing everything around you near instantly.

At Level 1, Flux takes a little time to charge, making it a little cumbersome to use. However, the charge time is cut to nothing once you equip two ultimate boosters, and you get to use it for longer, letting you kill even more enemies (potentially).
