While Ghost of Yotei is most likely Sony’s big holiday game of 2025, since Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophetis said to be years away from release, not much info has been made outsideits initial reveal.
That changed this weekend, as Sony has updated the official Ghost of Yotei page and silently revealed new details about the game, with one particular detail standing out.

Fans of Ghost of Tsushima are itching for the recently announced sequel. In the meantime, these are great games to check out that would be similar.
Ghost of Yotei New Gameplay And Story Details Silently Revealed By Sony
Sony revealed the details viathe game’s official page, which recently got updated with new information. Regarding the story, it’s set in 1603, which is 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima. This means we shouldn’t expect Jin to appear outside of flashbacks, as the character should be dead by the time Yotei starts.
Players who were hoping to see Jin dual-wield blades in Ghost of Tsushima, you will finally be able to do that in Ghost of Yotei! Sony confirmed that game protagonist, Atsu, will be able to dual wield katanas, and will also have new weapons like the odach and kusarigama. For those not familiar with the weapons, an odachi is a type of traditionally made Japanese sword, specifically a long sword, used by the samurai class of feudal Japan. It usually has a length of 90cm and is referred to as a “great sword” or “long sword.”

The kusarigama is another traditional Japanese weapon that consists of a kama (the Japanese equivalent of a sickle) on a kusari-fundo, a type of metal chain (kusari) with a heavy iron weight at the end.
Players can expect massive sightlines with sprawling grasslands and icy tundras, though if you played Ghost of Tsushima, that should be expected.

The game should also include new mechanics and gameplay improvements, but that’s a given since it is a sequel.

Another good things has been ruined for everyone.
The game’s premise has officially been revealed, with Sony giving a quick summary: “Filled with fury and determination, Atsu will hunt down those responsible for the death of her family and exact her revenge. Every odd job and bounty will provide the coin she needs for her journey. But how she fights, survives, and evolves the legend of the Ghost, will be up to you.”
Based on Sony’s page update, Ghost of Yotei is still on track for release in 2025, though we still don’t know when. Chances are, we’ll be getting a special Ghost of Yotei showcase in the next few months, which should reveal new gameplay, the release date, and other details.

Those who own a PS5 Pro, Sony has also confirmed that we’ll see “enhanced visuals and performance,” which is something we expect with new PS5 game releases.
