Despite Frostpunk 2’s success, developer 11 Bit Studios still seems to be facing many complex challenges.It appears as though the critical acclaim of their latest title, reaching similar scores to the original onplatforms like OpenCritic, could not pull them out of the hot seat of a changing industry.
In arecent financial report, developer 11 Bit Studios stated that despite the release of Frostpunk 2 and demos of thefuture title The Alters, their company is still facing “significant challenges” that plague their current financial situation.
As previously mentioned, Frostpunk 2 has steadily sold nearly 600,000 copies in 2024. Also, according to the report, “legacy titles such as Frostpunk andThis War Of Minealso continued to perform strongly.”
However, according to the president of the management board, Przemysław Marszał,“2024 was a year marked by hard work, significant challenges, and tough business decisions for us. It was also a year of achievements that we are proud of.”
He later explains that, despite not quite reaching the financial goal they hoped for in 2024, continued plans tomonetizeFrostpunk 2with expansions and DLC will hopefully pick up steam. Marszał states, “We experienced failures as well, which we are confident we have learned from.”

The iconic role-playing game franchise has numerous memorable stories.
To recoup some costs, the company appears to focus on what it describes as “near-term, financially attractive opportunities.“This is presumably another “project set in the Frostpunk universe, which we plan to launch as early as 2027.”
That said, between Frostpunk 2 DLC and a future title, this company’s recent success seems to be focused on the franchise. This leaves us lacking confidence, consideringthe many delaysof their upcoming title, The Alters.
Another interesting tidbit in the report is a potentially “deteriorating market environment for the title’s genre.“This means the current state of the gaming market may not be the most geared tosurvival-focused city builders.
Nonetheless, with more Frostpunk content on the way and the sequel’s decent success, we’re still excited to see what the team can provide for us in the near future.
