FunPlus Phoenix (FPX) takes on Edward Gaming (EDG) in the LPL finals today. FPX looks to cap off a very successful 2021 Summer Season with a domestic title before attempting to claim another World Championship.
After a heartbreaking start to 2021, with a loss to RNG in the LPL Spring Season finals, FPX dominated the LPL Summer Season by coming first in the regular season and going undefeated through the LPL Summer Season Playoffs.

FunPlus Phoenix was theLeague of LegendsWorld Champions of 2019. Unfortunately, after that success, they had a rather disappointing 2020 by failing to claim a domestic title or even a playoff finals appearance.
In addition to that, FPX did not even qualify to return to the world stage in 2020 with what could only be described as a very disappointing performance in the LPL Summer Season 2020.

DWG KIA, the defending 2020League of LegendsWorld Champions from South Korea, won the domestic title in August and will be coming into 2021 worlds with fierce determination to claim back to back championships.
In addition to that, the rising stars of Europe in Mad Lions will be a formidable team. After upsetting Europe by defeating G2 Esports and Rogue to take theLeague of LegendsEuropean Championship in Spring 2021, Mad Lions then successfully defended their title in quite a dominant victory in the 2021 LEC Summer Season final.
