One thing they’ve already found in the updateis proximity chat, a highly-requested feature that will surely be revolutionary for trash-talkers and toxic players everywhere.

Obviously, though, that’s not all the dataminers have found, and other files suggest that the game might be getting an overhaul to a beloved feature that’s been left behind over the years: Pets may be coming back as new and improved Companions.

How Will Companions Be Different?

Pets were first added inSeason 6 back in 2018, and were essentially a type of Back Bling, held in a carrier on the player’s back.

They lasted for a while, and the game even got some crossover pets, including Rocket Raccoon and The Mandalorian’s Grogu, but there haven’t been any new ones added in some time.

Leakers(viaIGN) think Companions, however, will be different, and significantly more fully realized than Pets, most likely not confined to the player’s backpack.

The FTC refers to it as “Epic’s deceptive billing practices.”

Leaked Companions include a golden retriever, a pair of pugs, a skateboarding turtle, and a robotic dog inspired by Cuddle Team Leader.

Fortnite

Fans believe Companions will be wandering around your character’s feet, visible to you and your squadmates, but probably not enemies, since they would be pretty likely to give away your position to anyone nearby who’s keeping an eye out if you’re hiding in cover, and you don’t need to worry about them catching any stray bullets.

Naturally, there hasn’t been any word on Companions from Epic Games themselves, and we don’t know if they’ll be officially added to the game in this season or later on.

Fortnite is still going strong, even as the rest of the battle royale genre declines around it, and the addition of Companions as yet another way to personalize your character will surely help to further cement its dominance as both a gameand a platformwithin the industry.
