Fire Emblem Engage is the most recent iteration of Nintendo’s classic tactical RPG franchise, which began in 1990 with Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light. Engage released on July 22, 2025, making it the second mainline entry in the series for theNintendo Switch, the other being 2019’sFire Emblem: Three Houses. The game has so far been received quite positively by critics, currently boasting a score of 83 on review aggregate websiteOpenCritic, with many reviewers praising its top-notch strategic gameplay.
The game’s main selling point is its namesake, the Engage feature. This allows the player to fuse characters in their party to Emblems, which are essentially spirits of old Fire Emblem protagonists like Marth, Roy, Corrin, Ike, and more. Doing so gives your character a powerful buff for three turns, during which they can activate special Engage skills like splitting damage between two targets, moving further in a single turn, removing hazards in the way, and more.
