The official twitter account forFinal Fantasy VII Remaketweeted on October 31 a brand new screenshot, comically showing Cloud running away from ghosts, and wishing a Happy Halloween to everyone.
While the English tweet doesn’t precise it, theJapanese version of the tweetexplicitly confirms this enemy is the “Ghost” enemy from the originalFinal Fantasy VII.
Those who have played the original will have recognized Ghost as well. The new design inFFVII Remakeis pretty similar but definitely has a scarier side to it now. This isn’t surprising as the graphics ofFinal Fantasy VII Remakeare going for an anime feel but with a realistic side, and all the characters revealed so far look pretty awesome.
This brings us to one thing I often wonder about withFinal Fantasy VII Remake: how all the goofy enemies will be handled. I don’t think any of them will be removed since Square Enix is going as far as keeping things like the Squats minigame. However, they’ll definitely feel different and have a different impact on players. They’ll definitely have a more serious look, just like Ghost. And all the trailers forFinal Fantasy VII Remakefeel way too much like a typical american action movie trying its hardest to impress. But you know what? This is fine. Since I believe a good remake should have a different experience, but at least just as great as the original game. And it’s not like the original will disappear. This is why I’m not particularly interested inLink’s Awakeningon Switch because it feels like the exact same game except for the graphics.
When I say goofy enemies, the first thing which comes to mind is the “House” monster, which wasn’t revealed inFinal Fantasy VII Remakeyet. Or the swimsuit wearing, yuki-onna inspired optional boss “Snow” (and its recolors like Pollensalta). I’m really curious to see what they’ll look like in the remake.
