Team Asobi’sAstro Botis a love letter to not just the PlayStation platform, but also the industry as a whole. Many of the game’s cameos appear as 150 (and counting) bots who hail from a myriad of games, from the forgotten to the timelessly classic.

Not only that, but you also have access to special outfits that Astro can change in and out of.

Amaterasu, Kratos, and Dante bots in Astro Bot

Once you find 48 hidden puzzle pieces, you unlock theChanging Room, which features 20 outfits, most directly referring to VIP bots.

The majority of these outfits can be unlocked through the in-game Gacha Lab machine for a low, low price of 100 coins, while others are premium exclusives or are acquired through challenges.

All of those outfits look good on Astro, but there are bound to be some that outshine the others.

Unless otherwise stated, all outfits can be acquired from the Gacha Lab.

Astro Bot: 10 Best Crash Site Animations

All your favorite characters like Dante and Kratos make appearances as bots in Astro Bot, showcasing some cute and classic animations.

20Stealth Outfit

Unfortunately, They’ll Still See You Coming

This is the “Stealth” outfit, an original outfit that you can earn from the Gacha Lab. Contrary to its name, wearing it doesn’t give you any benefits to sneaking around.

I’m not going to lie—I have no idea why Team Asobi approved of this outfit. It could have been some sort of invisibility power-up or just not included outright.

While I get that it’s meant to look sneaky, it completely takes away Astro’s face and any semblance of color, thanks to the outfit’s transparency. His eyes, which were supposed to be his most emotive trait, are gone!

19Cheeky Ape Outfit

All Monkey Business

The Cheeky Ape Outfit is a direct reference to the many Apesyou encounter in theApe Escapegames andthe mission “Apes on the Loose” inAstro Bot.

I think this is one of Astro’s goofiest outfits. Like the previous outfit, Astro’s face is completely covered by the ape’s head, but strangely, his hands and feet are still visible.

astrobot-012

It’s a great outfit if you want to cosplay and mingle withthe apes you rescued from the Gorilla Nebula, but it doesn’t look good anywhere else.

18Skelly Outfit

Necromancy Is A Dying Art

If you want to look like one of the many dead bots scattered throughout the cosmos, then the Skelly outfit is the one for you.

I’ve always admired the tiny details behind the skeletons inAstro Bot, as they play into the concept of what a cartoon robot skeleton would look like.

The missing faceplate and glowing eyes are a nice touch, giving a small peak into the internal workings of Astro and his robot buddies. Subtle world-building done right.

My first impression of this outfit was that it was a MediEvil reference, but it’s just a generic skeleton outfit, which is a missed opportunity. It’s a slight bummer.

Do You Hear A Clicker!?

Directly referencing the infected fromThe Last of Usseries, this outfit has a simple design compared to the other game-inspired outfits.

To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of it, considering it comes from such a big franchise. Astro just wears casual clothes and has fungi growing on his head. Unlike the other bot who wears this outfit in the Crash Site, it doesn’t change Astro’s eyes to red.

Maybe making Astro look more like a Clicker would be a better choice, but that might not fit the lighthearted tone ofAstro Bot.

It looks silly, if anything, but not very appealing as an outfit.

16Bovine Outfit

Udderly Adorable

Animal-themed skins are always silly and cute, no matter the game, andAstro Botis no exception. The Bovine outfit makes Astro look just like the cows in the Safari and certain other levels.

The cow’s head does give Astro weird head/body proportions, but that’s a small nitpick. Wear this outfit and interact with the cow in the Safari, and you’ll get the cutest interaction ever.

15Pro Driver Outfit

The Stig Has Competition

The Pro Driver outfit is a direct reference to theGran Turismogames, and with so many other racing references, it’s a shame we didn’t get any racing game-related levels.

Since Astro is quickly becoming Sony’s new mascot, I think it would be fittingto have aPlayStation crossover racing game likeMario Kart.

This outfit looks well-designed and feels as grounded in reality as theGran Turismogames. The helmet also looks really sturdy, though head injuries and crashes are the least of Astro’s worries.

14Horned Protector Outfit

Emotional Support Hero

Here, we’ve got an outfit directly inspired by the titular character ofIco,complete with large horns and colorful smock, though without the built-in escort mission.

It’s a cute outfit that works really well with a heroic character like Astro. Team Asobi must love Team Ico’s work, since they reference all three of their games, includingShadow of the ColossusandThe Last Guardian.

Strangely enough, they didn’t include the main character from their last game. I guess they didn’t make much of an impression.

13Eco Warrior Outfit

Ottsel Sidekick Not Included

This outfit is based on Jak’s design from the firstJak & Daxtergame, complete with pointy ears, goggles, and bright green hair. Unfortunately, there isn’t a little Daxter to go along with it.

Jak and Daxtermightnever have a fourth main installment nor leave the PS2, but hey, at least we have an outfit for the franchise!

It would have been cool to also have the more gruff and mature Jak featured here too, but hey, we can’t have it all, can we?

12Teddy Outfit

UnBEARably Cute

This is the second animal-themed skin for Astro on this list, and it looks just like an adorable teddy bear toy you might remember from childhood.

The teddy bear outfit, thanks to its rounded and soft shapes, gives off a cuddly feeling, and it might be one of the cutest outfits we have for Astro.

Instead of cosplaying as characters from other games, why not look adorable when you explore the cosmos?

11Tooled-Up Mechanic Outfit

Robotic Sidekick Not Included

Collect nuts, bolts, and wield crazy weapons with this outfit from the classic PlayStation IPRatchet & Clank.

Just like the Eco Warrior outfit, this outfit is based on the first game as Astro bears his chest like Ratchet. Looking a little cold there, buddy.

But I guess that’s not much of a change since Astro is technically naked throughout the game anyway.
