I’m as pumped as the next Witcher fan, but damping expectations regardingThe Witcher4’s release is most definitely needed. It’s already been nine years sinceThe Witcher 3: Wild Hunt sprung into our gaming world and even though the award-winning title has seen two stunningly beefy expansion packs in that time, the thirst for more Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri adventures has never really been quenched.

It’s fair to say that even thoughCyberpunk 2077has, in the end, been a gigantic success forCD Projekt Red, it’s the Witcher series that truly brought the studio into its glory days. Thankfully, it looks as though the next Witcher game is currently the “most advanced” project of all the games that the studio is working on ahead of any others, but that doesn’t mean it will be in our hands anytime soon.

And So The Witcher 4 Waiting Game Begins

According toPawel Sasko, associate game director on the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, who recently made an appearance on theFlow Gamespodcast, The Witcher 4 aka Polaris is CD Projekt’s “most advanced” project currently in the works at the studio. Although Sasko couldn’t divulge too much about CPR’s upcoming games, like a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, a Witcher spin-off – Project Sirius – and a Witcher remake, Canis Majoris, the quest designer did give eager fans a little shred of light into the development of the next game in the Witcher franchise.

“Most of those are in early stages,” said Sasko. “The only difference is the Polaris project—so, the new Witcher saga—that will enter production this year. It’s the most advanced of all of those.”. As of May this year, The Witcher 4 already had 400 developers working on it, so it seems as though Polaris could be even bigger than The Witcher 3, and now, with new tech at devs' fingertips, the Continent could look and feel better than ever.

The only catch now is how long we will have to wait to play it. Full production on The Witcher 4 won’t even start until sometime later this year and when you take into consideration that after the mess Cyberpunk 2077 left in its wake, which was announced in 2012 but not released until 2020, CD Projekt will be more reluctant to showcase anything too soon and more inclined to wait until its closer to release.

I guess all that needs to be done now is a few more playthroughs of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 while we wait!
