Blinding lights, loud noises, and a whole lot of people who aren’t that thrilled to see you. You think you’re in New York City? Think again, it’sthe great city of Tarkovbefore patch 0.16.7.0.
For years (eight of them, to be exact), the average experience inEscape From Tarkovhas had a relatively predictable flow: you quietly sneak up the fire exit of the three-storey dorms after clearing the bushes, open the door, and then get blinded by a flash brighter than a thousand suns. Next thing you know, you’re back to your stash.

Flashlights have been comically overpowered since theextraction shooter’s release, and it led to close-quarters combat feeling incredibly formulaic in spite of the heart-racing terror that the game is famous for. However, you now have a chance to fight back.
The multitude of glasses available in the game is no longer just for drip: they now protect you against evil flashlight gremlins, and also reduce the glare from environmental lighting.

Streamer Emm3D ran side-by-side tests using the gas welder safety goggles, which offer the highest flash protection in the game at 45%.
Other eyewear variations in game, like sunglasses or ballistic glasses, have lower flash protection statistics ranging from 10% (Tactical Glasses, Condor, Anti-Frag Glasses and the 6B34) to 30% (ESS Crossbow).

Apart from glasses, the protective face shield for the Altyn helmet scores 30% in flash protection, and its Maska-1SCh counterpart gets you up to 35%. If you don’t mind duking it out with Killa’s steroid-loving brother, the Tagilla welding masks give you an insane 70%.
