The 2025 Monster Manual Is Making Enemies Tougher
The new Monster Manual is the biggest creature tome in D&D’s history, with over 500 beasts all statted out for immediate use in a campaign.
Notably, a lot of enemies have been made tougher, such as dragons gaining access to the spells they had in older editions. This tracks with theupdated D&D classes, which are stronger than they were in the previous Player’s Handbook.
A lot of the information in the book has also been shuffled around and expanded to make it easier for DMs to read, such as putting Lair Actions alongside an enemy’s stats.

Each monster also has recommended environments where they can show up, suggested treasures they might carry, and information about potential diplomacy options when dealing with the foe, as not all encounters need to end in bloodshed.

The new Monster Manual is set to cap off the newcore rulebook triothat started in 2024. When the new Player’s Handbook launched, the stronger characters have been bullying the poor beasts from the 2014 Monster Manual. The time has come for the dark side to have its day, as the revamped antagonists are ready to make players fight for every experience point.
