Denis Villeneuve brought Frank Herbert’s Dune books to life with his movies, which went on to become a great success on screen. Further expanding this universe,Dune: Prophecytook everyone by surprise with its complex characters and storylines. However, as the show gears up for its second season, there are signs that the show’s highest-rated episode could be a wake-up call for the showrunners.

Despite receiving a solid reception, with a finale that was the highest in terms of ratings,Dune: Prophecystill lags behind other shows likeGame of Thrones. This is something the creators need to work on so that season 2 doesn’t face the same challenges.
Why aren’tDune: Prophecy’sepisodes earning higher ratings?
Dune: Prophecyhas definitely grabbed the attention of many fans, but there’s a growing concern about its ratings, especially for its highest-rated episode. The season finale scored a decent 8.4/10 onIMDb, which marks the show’s best performance.
But when comparing this to other popular series likeGame of Thrones, which regularly had episodes scoring above 9 viaIMDb, it’s clear thatDune: Prophecyhas yet to hit those same high marks.

This difference suggests that while the show is getting attention, it hasn’t quite reached the level of praise needed to compete with other big names in the genre. An 8.4/10 rating is still a good score, but most episodes ofDune: Prophecyfell between 7 and 8, which is a bit underwhelming. Considering the show is based on Frank Herbert’sDuneuniverse, the expectations are higher.
This makes it clear that the show’s creators have some work to do if they want to meet the high standards set by other popular series. With season 2 coming up,Dune: Prophecyis at a crossroads. The next season will be crucial in determining if it can rise above this rating chart or if it will continue on the same path.

Fans are hoping for a major improvement, hoping that season 2 will take the show from a solid start to something that gets universal acclaim. For that to happen, the creative team will need to focus on what worked in season 1, but more importantly, address the areas where the show fell short.
Why Travis Fimmel doesn’t see Desmond Hart as a bad guy inDune: Prophecy?
Travis Fimmel’s portrayal ofDesmond Hart inDune: Prophecyhas sparked plenty of discussion. At first glance, Desmond might seem like the typical villain, especially given his dark actions. However, Fimmel sees Desmond in a much more complex light. Instead of being a straight-up“bad guy,”his character is driven by deep convictions and personal struggles.
Fimmel knew a lot about Desmond’s character from the start, even though some details changed because of the writers’ strike. He added, (viaVulture)

I pretty well knew the whole thing but some details changed because of the writers’ and actors’ strike. There would have been a few more episodes, so some stuff got truncated because of time issues. But I knew a lot and that’s what intrigued me to do the character, because he wasn’t fully defined.
He continued:
That’s what I loved about the creators on the show. They let you make a lot of decisions. There’s a lot of shows where it’s like, “This is a character. You’ve got no choice.” These guys are so collaborative and I think it makes for a much more interesting on the show.
Though Desmond kills a child early on, Fimmel doesn’t see him as a heartless villain. He explains that Desmond’s extreme actions are motivated by his belief that the ends justify the means. This shows that, in Desmond’s mind, his actions, no matter how harsh, are for the greater good.

His motivations are rooted in his desire to represent the common people, a theme that the actor feels is important.
